Mamas, my husband is having a really hard time at work. He’s been very stressed out, the culture is very toxic, and he’s a very passionate person so he’s having an extremely hard time. He’s working nonstop, we have a 6 mon old son, and I’m working full time as well. I talk him down from the ledge everyday, he’s decided to switch jobs but right now isn’t having luck. He’s extremely smart, just isn’t fitting in at this place. Thinking of setting up some time to talk to a psychiatrist..cont

Encourage him to talk to a therapist. If you can manage to find some options for him, that could help remove some resistance to doing so. My husband has also had a tough time after being laid off and being at home with our young son. He started going to a therapist and it has helped immensely. Both for him but has also me as his weekly appointments have taken the mental and emotional load off me to help him through it when I’m at capacity myself.

If you are PwC, we also can use the emotional support app Ginger for spouse and one additional dependent. Connects you to therapists and is pretty simple to engage with.

He should stop trying to fit in. Here are 3 things he need to do:
1) Limit his engagement at work to his actual job, do what he loves and exclude himself from politics. He shouldn’t spend more than 40 hours per week working, and he shouldn’t get involved into anything except what his targets are.
2) Call recruiters from 6M ago, and start networking at list 1 hour a day.
3) Spend at least 1 hour a day with his newborn child.

OP: just want to add that please take care of yourself as well. I went through something similar with my husband in past and it drained me (newly pregnant) as well. I agree with the suggestions provided here and you are on right track with therapy. What helped my husband: positive affirmations that things will work out, working with therapist, finally accepting his fathers condition (alzheimers), and you may laugh at this but spend 1 week grieving and allowing himself to feel that world wasnt fair to him... I was desperate for help and posted here, and one of best advice given was to take care of myself! Good luck! This is a bad phase, and you both will come through stronger.

Cont.. i just feel so bogged down with trying to manage work, baby and his continuous bad moods/ seeing him so down.

Any advice on how I can help?

We are hiring. We have a good culture and great WLB. What does he do? DM me if you prefer.

What do you mean talk him down from the ledge- does he have depression? Where are you located and what is his job? Or are you looking for general being a good spouse in this situation advice?

More of support in mental ledge. Remind him how smart he is, how much he’s accomplished, and this is more culture vs him feeling dumb.

We’re in Chicago. He leads product for homes(like kitchen tools) . He’s got a Emba from Kellogg. Just crappy time to make change right now .

Is it good to switch from Deloitte to a mid tier firm like Brillio/Coforge/EPAM/Nagarro etc. ?

I mean I like the consulting culture and benefits, though sometimes onsite are lower..

I'm in a situation where I don't want to switch more, At least in the next 4-5 years I want to build my career and have a decent work life balance as well.

I would have probably preferred to stayback in Deloitte US or go to Consulting firms like KPMG/EY/Huron/Protivitti. May be lucky not working at this time.
