Any layoffs in big4?
I just created a bowl for attorneys on the autism spectrum/autistic attorneys. I am sharing here in case this might be relevant to anyone here: https://joinfishbowl.com/bowl_xg2f38fuh2 My son is on the spectrum and I realize I likely am, too, after researching more about autism to help him. Feel free to join the bowl if it may be of help to anyone here!

The “work until you’re the last person there” is a public accounting thing but “responding at all hours” is becoming more of a cultural thing. You can thank technology (which was supposed to make our lives so much easier and allow us to work less) and the lack of any unions representing office working professionals. The American worker is being exploited to the benefit of the 1% and this will continue as long as we are dominated by two political parties that are both owned by the 1%. Way to go, America.
Just have a kid. If I stay as late other people in my office, my kid would be in bed before I got home. So I don’t. If I have work to do after 6pm, I just fire up the old laptop from the kitchen table after the kid is in bed and do what I have to do. If I don’t have anything urgent, I fire up a couple of cold ones and watch sports. I don’t really care if people judge me about it; they’re sitting there judging and I’m on my way home to see my kid.
No, I have kids and my wife isn’t as nice as a staff who can’t talk back to me.
I like being the guy who starts the trend of leaving... 530 hits, I'm the first one out the door, and then everyone follows shortly after... Im not here to play games lol
I'm also the type of guy who will be the first one to take food from the work event. I don't mind awkwardly being the first
^ favorite move was asking if they needed anything when my things were clearly packed
I know a rising senior who would stay till midnight just to show she's at the office all the time even post busy season. Psycho! 🤦🏻♀️
Takes more courage to send a status of where things stand and head out the door to spend time with your friends and family. If your manager has an issue, that’s not a manager you want to work for anyways
It depends on the team. When I was a senior in PA, I told my staff not to sit around it they’re done with their work. I don’t need them blowing my budget surfing Facebook and chatting
Go home. No one with any real power is paying any attention to who stays late. Get your stuff done, produce a strong work product, and show you’re learning the business
And is this just a big 4 thing? Just a PA thing? Where can I get a job where the culture is that you go home...
@EY4 I usually think of those people at sucking at being efficient and managing their time
Go home
Not impressed by those who feel they need to do this. Please use your brain and leave when your done. And tell your teams to do the same.
I see this with financial audit - stare at each other in a smelly conference room until after 10 pm. Mandatory Saturdays IT Audit is pretty flexible and our teams didn’t do that - at B4 or Regional.
I kick my team out usually, it’s really a team culture, if you cant change them, change team!
Working late every night, just because everyone else is, is a choice. I am in the office at 7 am and aim to leave by 4 or 5 latest. I will log in in the evening and weekends as necessary. I don’t care if people judge me for walking out of the office. Those who start work at 9:30 or 10 am and work late, I have to assume that schedule works for them. The early schedule works for me and my family, and I stay flexible for meetings, clients, demands etc
Honestly, I remember staying late because I felt bad if people of higher rank stayed late. My attitude quickly changed and instead of ASKING to leave early, I would STATE that I’m leaving to go home. There’s always going to be work in the pipeline regardless of if you stay late to catch up. It’s almost as if people think they are getting paid OT 😂. The fact that people sit all day for 8+ hours a day even on Fridays then complain about how bad their posture or health is blows my mind.
I used to think, “hey if I stay late and get more work done, the team would see this and give me a good review.” It’s an eye opener when you see how much effort you put into your work only to get screwed over by office politics.
If I'm done with everything I can do then I'm gone at 5. If I can still work then maybe 6 or 7 but I've been pretty good about nailing deadlines.
I wish I can go home... but we’re so understaffed 🤷🏻♀️ in Tax.. it’s summer but we be working til midnight everyday
