Manager asked me to stay on bench for almost 5 weeks now. Is that ok?

Unless he’s giving you a billable WBS, you’re taking the utilization hit to stay on the bench. If you can still meet your target you may be OK, but “my manager asked me to” is not going to be enough to excuse you in YE reviews if you miss your utilization target. It’s not necessarily uncommon for this kind of request to happen, but it’s not fair to you if there are other good project opportunities and your YE performance review suffers because of it. 5 weeks is a lot of missed utilization if your target is 90%+.

Why? It's not okay. They can't ask you to be on bench for that long. It *might* be okay for a few days if a project start is getting delayed, but otherwise i don't see a justifiable reason

Assuming that means that they have a specific engagement in mind for you? Did you ask why?

Only if a partner is aware and supportive.

They can ask, you shouldn’t listen. It’s up to you to manage your utilization.

That’s not ok. The manager should help you find short term billable work in the meantime. That’s over 10% off your utilization

You will get dinged at YE for low utilization... Send an email to the M saying you are concerned about YE... That way it's documented

Waiting for an engagement to kick in. Will I have a hard time explaining this at year end?

Unless that partner holds THE power in deciding your rating/bonus/promotion, this sounds like a problem. I'd talk to your coach/relationship partner.

No worries....probably has a specific project in mind for you....enjoy the down time

Definitely not ok. You should be billable period. You’re hurting the bottom line and your own utilization. Have a talk with your coach and/or resource manager

I've been laid off from D. I'm seeking a similar role, "Resource Manager" or "Engagement Staffing Manager". To summarize, the role entails working with business managers to help fill open roles, providing available staff, and forecasts, etc.; and working with practitioners as they near or land on the bench. Do other consulting firms, such as EY, PWC, Accenture, etc. have such positions? If so, what are titles do they have? I'm seeking alternative search terms.

I have seven years' experience in executive search (based in APAC but have worked on global roles) and want to leave the industry for either an in-house talent role or a consulting firm. I haven't had much luck when I've applied for internal roles in the past. Do I have any chance at getting an in-house talent acquisition role, or is an executive search skill set just regarded as too weird/not the right fit for internal talent teams?
