Manager here in Big4 consulting. I enjoy the people I work for, and have an amazing MD and the best flexibility. I should be promoted to SM shortly. I don’t really care for my job but I don’t want to switch jobs b/c my situation is the best it will get (increasing salary and amazing work life balance). My plan is to stay at my company for the next 5 years, save money, get the employer match, and pension with no aspirations of making MD. Just me, or anyone else feel the same?

I am currently unemployed (but looking) an opportunity to consult has potentially fallen into my lap. Before I shut it down for a lack of experience, I want to know if it's something that I can even do. It's a very very small company, not even 3 FTE. But they are looking for someone to come in, create a Handbook(I can do that), provide benefits, etc.

Is that difficult to implement? I can't imagine it being so, but I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Can we expect 80% hike after 6 months in the current organization. I'm not actually planning to move out because of of hike, but because of the project which I got in which I'm not comfortable with. I'm interested to stay in the organization. But my supervisor said I have to stay in this project for atleast 5 years and HR asked to stay for atleast 2 years which I feel would loose my career.

Have I just had bad luck with the companies I've been at or is it like this everywhere? I've had 7 managers in my 4 years of experience, 3 in one year at my first position (which is why I left) and now 4 at the 2nd company in 3 years. I have 20+ yoe and MBA. Had a pretty rough time getting into private industry after the MBA, partly because of my public sector background. The only role that I got was a Manager in consulting, while my classmates left for SM and MD roles. But, after 4 years in consulting, and interviewing with other consulting firms, I am still being directed to the Manager role by recruiters. Reason: We hire only at that level. But, my classmates are joining the same firm as MD. Am I underselling my skills?

I went over budget on a project and I think my partner will have a chat with me about this. Not sure how to approach this situation. Firstly, client was inefficient in giving out information. Secondly, it was a learning curve for both me and the staff on board. I am a bit nervous as this is my time I went over budget and not sure what to expect in the meeting.
