Involve Director / Partner. Remember this is a team effort. And driven by your engagement manager. If he is skirting responsibilities at this end then you need to bring this to Partners attention.

Confirm if he/she is really working on different projects from someone higher in command. They SHOULD know about it and will appreciate your bringing it up if managers absence is a project risk.

In the morning when I come in or after lunch. The project lacks guidance and is going down the drain and I am not sure what I can do

Are there other managers at the same client but on different teams? Or is there a senior manager on the project? Both can be good people to express your concerns. I would personally hold off on the drinking comments and focus more on how the lack of engagement is rough. If that's the cause of the issue then it will naturally come to light.

Hmm that's a bit tougher. If you don't feel comfortable talking to the MD about this, definitely talk to your CC for some advice.

I agree with others to get the command chain above you involved. Just on the alcohol point - if the only thing you are seeing is that he smells of alcohol, do not bring it up. If there is a behavior issue then bring that up. People can smell of alcohol and that does not mean for sure they are drinking. We figured our one guy on my team who does not drink (religious) has been smelling of alcohol all week... because he was feeling ill and using hand sanitizer spray constantly to try to keep his germs to himself.

Given the feedback, I will definitely not bring up the alcohol although we smelled it across the table only when he let out a big sigh. Perhaps it's Listerine. I don't mind a typical hands off management approach but it's getting frustrating that we would wait all day (including weekends) for the checkpoint meeting only for him to cancel it half an hr before. It is really helpful to receive all your generous and objective advice.

Let’s pretend we’re holding companies. I’ll start: No, we can’t hire an extra writer even though you’re clocking 70+ hours a week. BTW, our contract with your client caps billable hours per employee because they know we don’t pay overtime. Here’s a non-billable code you should start using for the rest of the year.

I've had a junior (by level but not age) client resource that has been rude and disrespectful since the day he joined a couple weeks ago. Anyone else starting to feel nervous about the extra $600/week unemployment going away? Also, is it just me or does it seem stupidly misguided that the Senate/WH prefer to send another stimulus check instead of extending unemployment benefits? Not to mention the argument that it disincentivizes people going back to work is dumb when there are no jobs to return to.
