Many #machinelearning algorithms, whether supervised or unsupervised, make use of distance measures.
Take k-NN for example, a technique often used for supervised learning. As a default, it often uses euclidean distance.
By itself, a great distance measure.
Knowing when to use which distance measure can help you go from a poor classifier to an accurate model.

Multiple times I’ve been in this situation. Your new place should also respect if you end up wanting to do it in person as well, and give you the extra days for your boss to get back in the office
Depends on the relationship you have with your manager. When I had a direct manager in another state, I put time on her calendar just being vague and asking to connect to talk through some things because her and I had a good relationship and I wanted to talk it through with her in case she had questions. In another situation where I didn’t have a good relationship with my manager I sent it via email. At the end of the day you have to put it in writing either way, just depends if you want to give your boss that live interaction first.
I did this once as an AE with my (fairly absentee) boss. She was evasive when I tried to schedule time to talk, even when I waited a few days to do it in person. I ended up emailing her my resignation and don’t regret it at all. But as stated above—it depends on your relationship.
I had a boss who I really liked who was out of town when I needed to resign. I emailed him (this was before texting was super common and t9 was still a thing) and said I needed to talk to him when he had a chance. We talked. I almost cried (one of 3x in my career I’ve gotten teary at work). And then I handed my letter to HR. And 10 years later, he was my agency’s head client for a big account, and he hugged me when he saw me in the halls.
Also, if you hate your boss or your boss is shady (and you think they might fire you and save face), you can ALWAYS resign to HR instead.
