Do you mean connected to them and their mental state/support system or connected to the work?
Do you already have 1/1s with them? My manager and I often spend a few minutes just chatting, seeing how we are, getting some emotions or frustrations out. Sometimes we spend our entire meeting that way. Sometimes we jump straight into work. It’s just based on what we need to connect for that day/week.
Agreed that 1 on 1s are the best option! My manager and I have 30 mins each week to just talk about whatever and it’s very informal!
People keep bringing up 1 : 1s, but I do not tell my boss the truth in them. If I did, she’d know I hate the work I’m doing and feel no one in the agency gives a damn about what’s going on in the world. If you’re the type who truly cares, hopefully they can read that, but I don’t think my manager really cares to know any negative feelings I’m having.
Yes, trying to keep 1:1s on the regular. It’s just hard that it has to be a formal meeting, which happen once a week or so, and you can’t just notice someone seems a little down in their general office demeanor or response to small talk.
I guess I’m looking for ways for my team to feel more connected to each other, to a community, outside or in addition to 1:1s with me. So they don’t feel so siloed.
I have regular 1:1s (daily to every couple days) to review work as projects pass by my desk and like 50% is me chatting with my team member and 50% is actually looking at work. It's not very formal, it's just me setting up a time for us to aim to look at work and telling them if it's not 100% finished by then, it's ok I just want to see where things are at
