Friendly late 20s woman fish here who hasn’t been feeling good enough to be in consulting or run a business. I don’t know what’s going on but even with all of my accomplishments I feel worthless. 1.Dir of Finance at a pre-clinical stage private company. Would be second G&A hire. Currently everything G&A is done by CFO. (no consultant)
2.Controller/Dir at a Phase 1 private company. Reports to CFO. Currently uses consultant for accounting
3.Dir of reporting and accounting (with a "promise" to promote to controller in 1 year) at commercial stage company planning to go SPAC IPO this year. Report to VP finance.
4.Wait for better?

What can be revealed during a reference check? Are they different from background checks? I was laid off without cause during my probationary period. I've now got a written offer in Tech contingent on reference checks.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to provide references or if a third party will just call my old workplace & ask for feedback? I would love to secure this new offer, it's great, but feeling anxious about this check :(
