Exactly so you’re netting 5 extra days or an extra weeks payout per year when you quit (up to whatever caps). Seems like a good deal to me!
SC1 - I don't even know what you mean? How do you work remotely when you have doctors appointments that take up half a day? Or when you are caring for a sick child? Or even when you are down with something serious? Maybe a mental health issue? "Just work remotely" only works in some situations, not all.
Getting one bucket for PTO for both sick/vacation is pretty standard for most companies nowadays. Does BCG have separate pools?
But isn’t that better? How many consultants actually use their sick time? And, most companies don’t pay out sick time when your employment ends
But op, how many of those unlimited days have you used?
Wait, there are companies that still have independent pools for sick v personal?
Offer is for 25 days pto- to include sick and vacation. I’m pretty sure at BCG we get 20 days vacation and unlimited sick
EY has a PTO allocation + a sick / dr appt allocation (10 days). I use both as much as I can --
Yes... At Booz Allen it is all bundled under the umbrella of PTO.
Yes - except short term and long term disabilities
PwC has an unlimited sick leave policy and I am so glad we do. I have had to use a lot of it postpartum and for my infant.
You’re doing something wrong if you’re using sick days. Just work remotely
SC1 I agree but what if genuine can’t work sick- or need to take days off for sick children?
PwC has an option for "Sick day - self" and "Sick day - family/dependents".. Maybe different with other companies.
But if you have a doctors appointment that takes up half a day, are you saying you don’t work 8 hours that day (at least) or at least 40 that week? That’s also part of the benefit of being a salaried employee...
To take care of a sick family member, you can use FMLA. This will not be counted towards your sick leave nor PTO but most of the people only act on it for bigger issues when you need a great amount of time. The physician of the sick patient needs to complete a long form to certify and make you eligible for this federal benefit.
Yes, no. FMLA only gives you an option to take off from work due to sickness while securing your position with your firm. You can blend this in with your regular job such as to take 1-2 FMLA days a week no pay to give you more flexibilities. Any firm offers unlimited sick days here? Can it be taken at any point of the year or there's always a limitation ?
At PwC it’s separate and sick days are unlimited
Also, seems C2 doesn’t understand how most companies pay out PTO. Combined bucket is better for long term value of your days off
C2, I explained above - sick time is almost never paid out when separating from the firm but vacation time almost always is. When they’re combined, it’s all paid out. PTO is also an appreciating asset if you assume you get a raise - hours I earn at $100k are worth more next year if I am making $110k. Also, many companies reset sick days as of 1/1 each year (so unbankable) while vacation time accumulated and banked over time, sometimes subject to caps.
