Talk about being thrown under the bus

Interesting read. I had no idea this was happening until a friend from FL told me it saved a friend's life and had him go from sick to golfing rapidly. Interesting read.
I have a little baby that I cannot take to the school and I have done a fantastic job of taking care of her while teaching as it has not disrupted my job at all. It is very frustrating that my students now do not have a Spanish teacher because they will not let me continue to work from home. It has been a huge nightmare with administration saying one thing and HR saying another thing and the principal not returning phone calls. This is ridiculous.

No union in NC. We have no protection for this. Some advocates, but they have no standing to pressure anyone.
I pray that from this pandemic comes a systematic change in education as a whole. Hopefully it will strengthen Union participation among new teachers. My union negotiated a choice to stay home or work from our classroom. I am so grateful for my Union.

No union here either.
One of our teachers who is a new foster parent had to be home to take care of her children to school shut down due to Covid, and instead of letting her work from home, they made her take leave. Like I said, ridiculous.
Our district provides an option for in person or a virtual format. However, special education teachers still have to provide services to special ed students who choose the virtual program. We have to zoom with them and do everything we would do if they were in person...all the paperwork, testing, parent conferences....The virtual program is still considered part of "our district" but general education teachers do not have to provide instruction. The virtual school has general ed teachers but they don't provide instruction. It is all prepared for students to complete on their own. The virtual gen ed teachers do have office hours though.

Interesting, our virtual teachers teach, just like regular classes at the same live times.

We have to be fully face to face. Started the in August at 60% face to face. If we didn’t like it, we had to break our contract and have holds placed on our state certifications. 🤷🏻♀️

WOW... just... no words.
I’m so sorry this is happening in your districts. I hope something improves.
Same, tons of teachers planning to leave this year. I’d be curious to see the subsequent data.
Same state that had all those issues of respecting people’s differences have gone a step further
I am so sorry this is happening to you. There is no reason why a teacher who is teaching remotely should not be able to do it from home. Why are we being treated like this? We need to demand to be treated like professionals. No one expects to get a free doctor's visit if it is telemed.
It’s politics and we always fall in the middle.
I’m in MA where we have unions. I spent 2 years teaching in Savannah where they’re illegal. The difference is like night and day! In one year I knew one teacher who died in her sleep, 2 who had strokes, and another one who had to go out on FMLA with a stress claim. They really are treated like crap and the stress level is unbelievable!
