I was a stay at home mom for 10 years; had 4 children & helped my husband build a decent non legal business. I started my PI practice at end of 2019. I did great in 2020. Unexpectedly I developed inappropriate feelings for a mentor over zoom. We decided to stop working together and started therapy. I faced my horrible childhood trauma, gained confidence and realized how terrible my marriage is. Husband admits mistreating me & regrets taking advantage but thinks I’m unfair for wanting a divorce.

I have a good job, I’m healthy, and am privileged. Except I feel lonely if I’m not dating someone or apart of something like a team or tight knit group. I try to run from my feelings through work, hobbies, and partying but still feel starved of a deep emotional connection. (I have already done therapy for this for more than a year) It makes me really sad and I usually push people away because I’m so desperate for someone to care about me. I’m realizing why I don’t want to celebrate my 30th bday and it’s embarrassing. when i think back, i’ve always made a big deal out of my bday, having parties and bringing friends together, or traveling to meet someone. it feels silly to admit, but no one ever brings me a gift and it’s bothering me. i’ve never gone to bday or any party empty handed. at the very least i’ll bring a bottle of wine, flowers, gift card, etc. could i be doing something to attract this, or do my friends just hate me?

Hear me out before reporting this. I know it’s a good thing overall that we focus more on mental health/therapy nowadays, but sometimes I wonder if it’s just a crutch to blame things on others and not take self responsibility.

My brother has been going through Complex PTSD and severe depression for 4-5 years and it’s been absolute hell. It’s not any better after multiple therapists and the latest one he likes seems to encourage blaming my parents as the cause despite us having same upbringing
