Massive amount of my NW is in tech investments & crypto.... this is extremely painful. Like about 2 to 3 years of earnings just evaporated.

Same boat. Feels slightly better I'm not alone.

With time, both crypto and stocks would be fine. Hopefully, you don't need these money in next 2-3 years, this is going to take time to recover..

Crypto is not an investment

Everyone keeps saying 2-3 years, and that very may well be the case, but the last time tech hit the crapper it took 17 years to recover. None of us know what will happen.

I don’t disagree. My comment was directed at people saying “a few years” which could prove not accurate. In a few years the NASDAQ could be zero or it could be double or triple where it is now. Over 15-20 years, sure you’ll be fine. Not everyone has 15-20 years though, most of us are young enough and do.

Unless you are retirement age, stop monitoring it. It will come back. If anything, keep contributing on the way down.

I am 31 and am determined to not let all this noise distract me. Staying out for 15-20 years atleast! If the market doesn’t recover in over a decade and a half I think we are doomed as a civilisation across the world so wouldn’t overthink the recession. Let it come down even more.

A2 and SCC 1 - that’s the investment strategy. I am not sure of crypto thought - because of the unproven nature of it - but with securities and real estate what N1 said is the only way to invest . If you are doing anything else runnn

Crypto is expected. Look at what’s happening with NFTs. Tech will come back if it’s in an index. If not, it’s a crapshoot.

Hopefully you don’t need the money soon. If not, depending on what you actually have, the tech should be ok. Crypto, I have no idea

We don’t think our situation is complicated- neither of us own a home/cars, but have some investments, both expect some inheritance eventually, and both get a chunk of equity from work that we’d like to call out. We’ve already discussed in depth how we want to split things.

Hi everyone,
So I have been maxing 401k and Roth for a few years now. I setup the Roth on an auto deposit spread across the year. Well, it just dawned on me that with my wife and I recent (December last year) raises. We are now over the limit that's allowed to contribute to them. I have already invested a good chunk for the 2020 year.
So my questions are, do I just pull the money out of it or leave it?
What sort of penalties can I expect for next year's taxes?
Thank you!
