Mathematics major ended up doing IT audit for 2 years and is considering an opportunity to go for a IT Security compliance role. What should I take note of?

Return back to mathematics unless you want to regret it later when it will be harder to turn back to square 1. I think in most cases such a career will not be intellectually stimulating for someone with a major in Mathematics, and it is only offering pretty much average financial rewards in most cases.

If you have mathematics I feel like picking up coding or going to graduate school might suit you better. I’m sure you’d miss some research stuff or just solving differential equations or proving some functions and sets :)

Use your mathematics degree to pick up data science or analytical skills. With those skills you can possibly get into cyber risk modeling work, it’s a untapped territory.

Depends on the company really. I was bought on as cyber security consultant and then promoted to senior specialist because of my background in data. I just think it’s a good safety net as cyber field is really volatile, if that path fails you can still rely on good ol data science.

Do you want to stay in audit/compliance type work?

I’m getting more interested in the cybersecurity path though, thought it would be a good jump to bridge the gap between what I do in IT audit and the industry

Cyber is extremely rough burnout is about 24 months you should see that in all the research you do.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

I'm trying to suss out if a new member of our dept hates me or my team (she manages a different team).

My initial take is she's just hard to read and probably a tightly controlled introvert. My direct report felt she's 'cold as ice,' 'bristling' at our suggestions, and forming a clique that wants to do their own thing with no input from our team. He's triggered very easily, and there was no explicit evidence, just a 'vibe' so I wrote it off. (See 1st comment)
