I graduated law school at the tail end of the last recession. To find work will require flexibility, taking on temp work, and willing to be tenacious. You can do it. Just keep at it.

The economy is getting hit hard due to the Coronavirus. It is good that you have awareness. Hopefully, your school’s career services can help. Maybe, try to identify areas where there is most need. Still look for openings and ask around. Many get jobs through word of mouth. Networking is always good, but make sure it’s authentic and relationships are nurtured. Etc.

This is so important.

Scary unknown times for sure but you have a skill set that is needed in crazy times, remember that. You may not find your dream job but you will find something and gained experience. Rest assured you will end up with something you love. In these times, graduating with a law degree puts you ahead of the pack. Good luck.

Echo that. If there is any fellowship program (paid or small stipend) your law school or local bar association offers for government or nonprofit work prior to bar passage- do it!

Look for clerkships. Network with judges and federal/state govt lawyers. They’ll still be hiring.

like

Also look for new judges that just got appointed they won’t have clerks yet.

Temp work is still work! My first two years were doc review temp work. Attorney title on your resume still counts. First job might not be “fabulous” but you will get there in 2nd and 3rd job!

like

I completely agree. Likewise my first two years were an array of temp work gigs. Not glamorous, but roles that helped me develop skills I later parlayed into full-time roles.

Or go into bankruptcy... business is basically booming there

like

Probably. And frankly, most are willing to train as long as you are a good and diligent attorney overall

Thanks for this!

Happy to help.

There aren’t mass layoffs in law (yet).

(Yet) is just so uplifting haha do you think it’ll be repeat of 2008?

Not really about applications, but for those doing PT MBA and currently interviewing for other jobs, do you tell the hiring manager/HR you are starting the program in the fall (or currently going through it) Does it help your candidacy to say this or better keep it shut? Thanks

Hello fishes, I got email from Accenture stating you did not clear skill interview required for this role. We are u able to proceed with your candidature. Is there any chance HR might call after this ? Performed exceptionally well for other questions.except the online coding tool. Not sure why I was asked to code suddenly. I explained the logic used and code was compiling without any error.but they needed exact output in the tool. Any thoughts?

These are just gut feelings tho, would like input from people in the know.

First year here as a general staff accountant. Midsize. Been asking scheduling for work but only managed to get 10 hours of billable work last week doing a couple 1040s... I also ask around yet everyone says they’re fine. It’s still considered busy season here since I’m at midsize and it feels wrong not hitting atleast 40 billable hours. It would suck if I got laid off cause of it. 🥴
