May 2023 grad looking for mentorship from a sales professional. I have a lot of questions, but need some perspective. I'm being recruited by big companies and feeling lost. I'm interested in tech/consulting/big data, but open to other ideas.

PM me if you're open to answering some entry level sales questions and maybe being a mentor if we vibe. Or just drop a piece of advice you wish you knew as an entry level salesperson and what companies to avoid.

It’s amazing you are planning ahead and believe in the power of mentorship to accelerate your career path. Kudos to that cause you are already a step ahead of many fresh graduates I know.

Advice: Create a system. Be early. Dress well. Be mindful of your body language, tone and pitch of voice. Always be prepared for every meeting. Do not multi-task.

I’m open to chat - feel free to drop me a ping.

Best piece of advice I can give is not to take rejection personal. I almost quick sales because I had such a hard time in the beginning being told no. Once, I worked for months to nurture a lead and came *thisclose* to closing the deal, only to have them pull out last minute. It was such a downer, but I'm glad I stuck it out and never gave up, because I love my job and make great money now. Just remember, at the end of the day, it's business, not personal. Best of luck!

I’m just a few years ahead of you, feel free to DM

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice with regards to my next career step. Currently in audit and I have opportunities to go for a Valuations role or an FDD role (both big 4). What are the pros and cons of each? (hours and learning opps, not concerned about salary) Not looking to work long term in both and would likely want to transition into an FP&A role in the future. Hoping to jump directly but require modelling experience.

What is the best way to begin a transition from a help desk job to an actual career path in IT? I’m getting close to being at my current job for a year, however I have a lot of experience in the tech field, which is what landed me this job without any actual IT background. I definitely feel over qualified and under paid in the position I am in now, and looking for the next step towards an IT career. Any advice would not fall on deaf ears. TIA

Has anyone worked at Leidos Quality? Interviewing w/ them seemed like a great position for QA/Process Improvement, but the pay was on the lower end of what others offer for my IT/Cyber b/g. About to retire and know that exp is a factor affecting pay.

It's more in line with what I 'THINK' I want to do when it comes to process improvement and innovation.

I know I can get paid more in IT/Cyber, but I'm kind of burnt out.

Any advice/words of wisdom/things to consider to help decide?

I just had the initial call with HR. I was told that Senior Analysts start at 56k and Business Operations Specialists start at 67k. I was told the next step was Junior Manager but they rarely started anyone at that level. I'm shocked. Is that accurate or are they trying to lower my expectations? I have an MBA and an MHA and 20 years military experience.

Hey bowl,

I'm building a sales organization for a SaaS start up from scratch, and I want to encourage a constructive sales environment from the get-go. Things like supportive teamwork, life time deal with value, and similar.

How would you design incentive structures for sales roles that encourage people and teams to support each other while also making sales leading to growing ARR?

What have you experienced that works particularly well? What doesn't?

New to software sales. Trying to understand how common it is for sales leadership to accept quotas that are completely unrealistic to achieve? I’m talking the total addressable market isn’t even as large as these quotas. Also how common is it for sales teams to hit <80% of quota year over year without any consequences/changes? Thanks in advance.

Then it was the word: “Snore”, which corresponded to “36425”. and then I had to figure out the number that corresponded to: “Rogue”. It just seemed too easy, why even have it besides creating another barrier to a possible offer? Should I tread carefully here?
