Maybe a dumb q but why does this statement matter to me, a level 1 associate? — I will make sure we bump you above your standard rate. — Partner sent this in an email and didn’t understand what this meant for me.

Seems to be saying he’ll get you a higher rate than your standard for a particular matter. It’s good for you because it means you’re bringing more money into the firm (assuming it’s not subsequently discounted/written down more than usual, and the client pays). While money in the door might not technically matter for a first year (depending on your firm), it will still look good if you have more of it.

Thank you! That makes sense — won’t offset my slow first 2 months but good to note.

Bill the client more than what the rate sheet says is your hourly rate? I've seen that before for relatively new hires. They bill you out at a set rate and then realize that you are worth more.

It could also depend on your practice area. I started out in corporate restructuring/bankruptcy, and my rates were always higher than general corporate or litigation associates of the same class year.

Likely meant to send to someone else. Try responding “Great to hear. Thank you very much.”

Was a bitch? My coworker routinely asks me how I am doing, what I’m working on, if everything is ok, joking that I’m starting my week on Wednesday because I’ve been remote for two days, etc etc. I find it distracting and invasive so today I told them to please stop asking questions that put me on the spot. Was I a bitch?

Rant: I interviewed at a mid size firm for Senior Tax Associate role and went really well. Partner calls after a couple days to say they want to offer me a job and asked me if I wanted senior 1 or 2. I said senior 2 since I have a years experience as a senior and she was okay with it and discussed salary. She said she will think about the final offer and let me know. A week later she comes back to tell me that my small firm experience probably won’t help much and it would be difficult for me...

A big fear of mine lately has me feeling like a terrible human being. My brother in law had a small covid wedding last year, I was so excited to go but had to cancel last minute because I started miscarrying a few days before the wedding, at 5 weeks. I ended up watching the livestream, and miscarried during the wedding, alone at home (I urged my husband to go to the wedding and that I’d be fine, my parents were checking in on me). I haven’t been able to get preg since. (Contd in comments)

I have a large 2br high-rise corner unit in Midtown Atlanta that I am looking to rent from Mon-Thurs/Friday morning of each week. Any consultants with ATL-based projects in the market for housing? - Its a penthouse styled unit with incredible views of Stone Mountain and the downtown ATL skyline. Also has a roof-top pool for those hotter days with less workload.
