Maybe I'm just awkward, but never know how to address kid's teachers. Do you call them by first name or Mrs. so and so?

Address them how they like to be addressed. For example, if the teacher signs everything under Mrs. Clinton then I’ll call her Mrs.Clinton. Check your kid’s communication emails or observe conversations between your kid and the teacher.

When I worked in school admin I always addressed emails to parents as Mr/Ms. even though I signed the email with just my first name. Parents still addressed me as Ms. probably because that’s how I addressed them.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I’ve defaulted to the Ms So-and-So but it also feels awkward. And then once they’re in my brain that way, it’s so hard to reframe.

I honestly am more comfortable with being referred as Mrs. __________. It feels awkward to be be referred to by my first name. I understand it, but I especially don’t like it if it’s around the kids.

but then again, I still see my 5th grade teacher and still call him Mr. _______ and I haven’t been in 5th grade for almost 30 yrs.

Call them Mr. , Ms. or Mrs.

See this is the conflict. I default to more formal but emails are always signed with first name only.

My preschooler was in an Israeli daycare and the teachers are all called “Morah [name]”, which is the Hebrew word for teacher - it’s so convenient because then I didn’t have to call her by her first name, and she has a complicated last name that I’ve never heard pronounced so I was happy to not have to say Mrs. X! I’d agree with above that if she signs her communications with her first name then use her first name. If she’s much older than you maybe Ms. first name could work too.

Mrs Robinson is my daughters teacher and that’s what I call her lol

I always start with the formal polite version out of respect, until they tell me otherwise. Some will say "call me (first name)" or will sign their email with the first name, and then I know it's their preference. If they don't, it means they prefer formal. They don't get nearly the respect they deserve, so why not make sure they feel appreciated in little ways?

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and am exhausted all the time. Like, sleeping 8 hours a night and still can’t keep my eyes open during the day. My work is insanely busy and the pressure is really on for billable hours. Our firm has furloughed some lawyers and laid off others. So even quick naps during the day aren’t a possibility. I’m typically working from 8:30-7, break for dinner, and then back on the computer from 9-10:30 before bed. I exercise most mornings and eat well. What can I do to make it thru?!

My sister and brother in law are dealing with male factor infertility. My husband and I had our own infertility journey, so she shares a lot with me. They are Catholic, and he is firmly opposed to IVF, but a series of doctors have been clear that is their only option. While she is not opposed to adoption, she can't put aside the opportunity to be pregnant lightly, especially considering there is no indication of any issue on her side. Anyone been through something similar?

So we are in the middle of buying a house in the suburbs and our nanny just let me know that the commute will be too long. I’m worried about how my child will take 2 large changes, a move and a different caregiver. Is it better to wait to move till he’s a little older and can send him to a 2’s school program? For context, he is 15 months right now.

Im trying to decide whether or not to send my baby to daycare vs have a nanny when he is 6 months old. I was calling daycare centers (Austin) and one of the owners gave me her “personal opinion” and said babies immune systems can’t handle it and are constantly getting sick right now bc of Covid, RSV, etc. I heard daycare is great because they do need to build an immune system, the socialization is great, and more toys vs what you have at home. Thoughts on which care option is better? I’ll be WFH

Considering going into anything else that will pay me a higher salary, I’m ok with long hours if the pay is justified. It doesn’t have to be accounting related. Thanks for all your suggestions.

My fiancé and I are currently discussing our future. Looks like I’ll be the breadwinner in the family. I love family and looking forward to have my own kids but afraid I won’t be able to build a strong relationship to them since my fiancé will spend more time with them and I will be occupied with work. Is this a valid concern? Can any breadwinner mother share their experiences with me? For me personally, family and children are the most precious thing to me..

I just got offered an in-house opportunity and am currently at a firm. My firm is more “laid back” in the sense I only bill about 90% of my goal and it’s no big deal. But I know I’ll need to crank it up if I want to be a member and not sure I want to be a member because I seriously value work life balance.

I posted this question in some profession specific groups but I feel like this group might be more understanding. I am a mom of two young children. I am fully remote right now.
