Maybe it’s just me, but I do not understand this mindset at all and I’ve only encountered this from NYC natives. Every city is deserving of criticism no matter what lol

LOL right?? Trust me the city is great and I appreciate all it’s done for my livelihood but my God get out of your bubble

People feel like this about everything. Not particularly unique to NYC.

Source: Not native to NYC, happy to shit talk it. But also love it.

like

I get that, but it’s almost like a visceral reaction from some long time occupants/natives if you dare say anything bad about the Big Apple that I haven’t witnessed from other cities

Because outside perspectives are biased.

OP I’m being sarcastic

Lol if I am paying New York taxes to support the city’s infrastructure, and if I live, sleep, work, eat, and socialize here, the I absolutely have the right to love and hate the city lol. Equal tax = equal rights.

I think part of the vehement defense of NYC is due to the incredible cost of living here. High sunk cost makes people want to defend their own decision making.

like

My friends from Detroit are the same way - i think every city has its “townies”. Places like Charlotte are so transitional that few people defend it.

I actually agree with them. There are some nuances to life in NYC that you simply can’t put into proper context after just a few years.

We arw loyal to our city. OP would you like it if i went to your house and shittalked it and your family?

I currently work in Private (GA) Aviation & have for some time (about 12 years) I’m currently making the switch to the Department of Aviation and am unsure if I should ditch my current job (in private) and go full force with the DOA & embrace this new opportunity educationally and gather as much experience as I can or keep both jobs even though I’d be working 80hr weeks.. I love the private world but am really ready to move up. I don’t know what I should do. Any suggestions?

I'm currently in a process for senior associate at a Big4. The process began on July, yet between the first and second interview it took like 3-4 weeks. And between the 2nd and 3rd like 7 weeks. I sent an email to HR during those weeks asking for an update and didn't have an answer. Then it a 3rd one was scheduled three times (the manager didn't connect to the first 2) and next week I have the last interview with 1 partner. Is the timing normal? Or were they looking for other candidates or what?

Has anyone figured out how to “automate” the switching on/off of heaters in NY apartments?
I am new to US/NY and it’s the first time I see these room heaters (photo). I want my heater to turn on/off at certain times of the day without me having to manually twist the switch. Basically do the work that a thermostat would usually do.

How do you all automate your heating? (Browsed online but can’t find anything…)
