Is saving over rated? Starting to think my general strategy/approach to savings. I recently posed a question about why people don’t retire earlier after seeing maxing out your tax accounts (~30K with match) gives you ~70k in today’s dollars (not 70k in 2060 dollars). I was a bit hyper obsessed about saving that extra 2-3k a year and saying no to that extra beach trip or mountain weekend or even a round of golf. Now I think I should be saying yes, what do you guys think? Just curious for thisconv
I’m taking a few calls for new opps at a couple different firms and wanted to get a pulse on feelings from folks who actually work there to help me narrow it down. Agencies are: Weber Shandwick, Ruder Finn, FleishmanHillard and a smaller boutique called LifeSci Communications. From The sounds of other threads on here, I’m nervous about WS. Looking for a read on Work/Life balance, how well staffed they are, avg pay range (VP level), PTO/holidays/benefits, etc. So, how do you like working there?
Any Deloitters can share a little bit on how the pension works? From what I see 401k is 25% match of 6% of salary. Then pension is 1.5% of base?
What are 72 and sunny and droga benefits? Looking for details on 401k like vesting periods, matching etc.
Why does the 401k match in consulting suck so much as compared to corporate? What are some ways to make up for it other than just asking for higher base pay?
I’ve been thinking about getting an MBA, but don’t really see the financial return. Paying $120k+ for two years and not working. If you got an MBA, did you see the value in salary or other benefits?
Accepted an offer, but the day before another company came at to interview. They offer more pay, better benefits, works more in line with what I want. But they haven't given me an offer yet, I just have a very good feeling. If I do get offer 2 how bad is it to go back on offer 1?
BCG fish I need advice. Currently interviewing for a Consultant level role, they mentioned it was generalist track and it’s located in the south region. If I have experience and an affinity to work within healthcare would I be able to network and get staffed on healthcare engagements regardless of region? Don’t want to get stuck in energy work or another industry if that’s what ends up happening. Boston Consulting Group
Pros and cons of investing in 401k if your company doesn’t match more than for first 3-6%?
Not in IB or ER, but I have to ask (per CFA study), how common is it to run in to troublesome pension accounting issues? It seems like most companies have/are going the way of DC plans and away frm DB
Best way to maximize Amex Gold benefits? Aside from the Uber and dining credits - I don’t travel much but I do dine out / order in a fair bit
I am trying to buy a plot of land and was just advised that taking out a land loan for $25k is not the best decision and I might want to consider a HELOC or borrowing from my 401k. Both HELOC and 401k I have always been told are bad decisions. After thinking about it, I definitely want to go in with an all cash offer, just need to find the $25k. Any advice?
What would you do? 34 years old. Offered partnership in hometown local firm 7+ years in the making that offers opportunity to earn 150-200k+ per year + benefits. Also just received unsolicited offer to be in house at young small company that will start at 200k and offer equity totaling payouts of low 7 figures over next five years but requires me to be away four nights/wk 2 hrs from home. May be able to work remote 2 days eventually. Life span of company is 5ish years. Married w/ 3 kids under 5
When YE bonuses get paid out, is your 401k contrib deducted from it at the same %? Do ppl preemptively lower 401k % the month prior to pocket the cash? Would rather it go to my bank account first...
What would you value more when deciding between jobs (both non-PA) - a company w/ prestige or with work life balance & good benefits. Let’s say same salary and potential for growth. I’m ambitious but also totally burnt out and over public accounting.
I got a side hustle part time job that’s not under the table. I don’t wanna do 401k through them since I already have a good 401k through my full time job. Is there a way to opt out of doing 401k for that part time job or do enroll and then just put 0% allocation?
Is it worth sending an application to BCG while they're on a hiring freeze or wait to be "top of the stack"? Is it worse to apply for the generalist consulting role in either scenario (vs. a specific ID)?
Going on a production in LA last minute, will be my first in person work thing in two years. So excited to be shooting again then realized 90% of my cute work production/LA weather work clothes don’t fit anymore post covid weight gain. Just ugh 😓 I wish it didn’t bother me as much as it does but won’t lie it definitely killed some of my excitement today. I’ve seen some similar posts about woman on here dreading buying new wardrobes to go back to the office and I see you!
Wife and kid are going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks. Instead of wasting time, I’d like to do something productive. What would you do if you have say 3+ hours a day. Maybe self help, wealth creation type books, work out daily, take care of some things around the house.

Applied to Google for a couple of roles and got a call from a recruiter for a strategy role. Thought this was odd since strategy isn't exactly what I wrote my resume for. Already offered at Amazon for a deep learning role with 25% more pay (i.e., Google Strategy would pay less). In general, what's the smart play here? Can I continue to focus on technical work and pivot to strategy later when I want to? I feel like I can work to ensure my tech skills are top tier, and when needed, do...
First-year 5th grade teacher here. Once I am able to get in my classroom, I will only have 2 weeks to get ready. Any advice on what I can do to prep before getting into my room would be appreciated.
Fish! Had COVID in the past, have antibodies still, now wanting to get the vax so I can get back on the road and travel internationally... so J&J or Pfizer? Anyone who also recovered from COVID have bad reactions to either??
Can Digital Strategy planner at agency side get into Digital brand management at the client side (Associate level)? Does it necessary to get an MBA to get on the client side?
Why does everyone put Tech / FAANG on such a pedestal, claiming it’s better than MBB. Sure, the comp and WLB may be better, but you won’t be doing as meaningful and impactful work e.g. Govt Covid response, Gates foundation projects, industry defining projects in the space of a few months etc
