Weird flex but aight
OP started this thread to show off.. coz he knew most may be under..
not sure why are you hiding the answers to questions like your pre MBA experience and level and visa .. by default composition of this bowl, except for a few at MBB most big 4s and other won’t reach that number.. may be post in bowl with lot of tech ppl in Bay Area where the kids from top undergrad campuses may be making as much in the same organization as you to understand your real value and 5 years younger..
FWIW, Deloitte s&o about 190k.. 2 years of Premba work ex
7” avg. girth, not 2017 batch though 🤫🙃
Really need to know (length*girth)+YAW / (mass/width)
What's your total YOE? Where'd you go for an MBA. Did you need a visa ? What was your core skillset pre and post MBA. You've got to look at all of this to make an appropriate comparison.
M7?!? Gee.. I would go get an mba too if at I’m M7 :)
Seems extremely low for a director in the bay area. Should be averaging at least $350k
Yes P1, but then you need to know how to code, or have direct connection to VC money. Pick ur poison :)
c1 is correct. Pre-mba experience matters.
There was an M7 (can't remember which) for which the top salary one year was 300k and second was 200k. The recipient of the former was able to go into PE because they had former PE experience. The recipient of the second highest salary went into IB: again they had the prior background.
Within consulting, there are multiple instances where a consultant previously left consulting (maybe briefly for a corporate role) and then did an MBA. A straight MBA hire would come in at the associate/consultant level (title varies by firm), but these ppl would come in at the engagement manager/ project lead/ case team leader level. i.e. their starting comp would be 30%-50% higher. This also makes sense because they can hit the ground running, whereas someone from a different background may take a lot more time to ramp up.
An MBA is a nice addition but certainly doesn't equalize everything away.
@sa1, I'm just a run-of-the-mill consultant. Actually I find a lot of the profiles of fresh college hires really impressive and secretly look up to them!
Wasn’t looking to 💪 but rather get an honest benchmark going.
Lack of replies implies I am at the top of the distribution...
BCG3 this is exactly what I was looking for, as I was rejected from MBb
Humbumbumble bragagagags
Agree!
OP throw in your numbers right out of b-school
Nope.
Sales strategy <> sales
~$200k TC out of b-school, and now sitting at ~$300k TC in Texas. Went to a top 10 school and needed a visa fwiw
^Your comp will depend on performance. If you’re too bucket you’ll be north of 300k*. If you’re not, you lose some on the bonus.
*obviously most aren’t too buckle (especially if it’s your first PL year
2021 mba grad. Following
2020. Same here.
What does sales strategy involve?
Setting territories for sales reps, setting quotas, sales forecasting, analyzing win rates by customer / product / geo.
Basically trying to figure out where the biggest bang for the incremental buck invested in the sales team is.
Keep in mind, at most tech firms levels don't matter. There is an "Analyst" in my group who has 8 FTE and is an L6 and prolly pulls 350+ in comp.
Fwiw, 2018 MBA, Non-M7, 250k TC. 3yoe pre MBA.
Thanks for flexing, but there are plenty of people who are younger, with a greater salary, and more humble than you are
S&1 I said *if* we’re comparing/competing, but we are not doing so
Quick update. Just talked to a recruiter and learned that Director roles in Bay Area tech typically pay $350-400k.
So I am severely underpaid.
Haha yeah all of us should have instead done the IB to PE career path
Did you go straight from undergrad to MBA ? 280k seems too good to be true
1+yr (2018) post MBA, Top 15 MBA and gotten calls for jobs that are TC 250-300 in SF. OP's comp is real and points made on benchmarks are also valid.
P.S. ~225k in Lcol city.
Wtf this is crazy...anyone hear of the NYU MBA tech program? Is it worth it?
No
Do you have 7+ YOE before Bschool? Those director roles normally require 10+ and I was pretty shocked how strict some the tech giants’ recruiters followed that rule.
Yes
