MBA or CFA? I’d like to hear some thoughts/comparisons. I’m a rising Junior in college and am debating on which I should pursue after I graduate. Some relevant background information: BS Economics, Minor in Math, ideal career is wealth management. Thank you.

You most likely will not need an MBA for a successful career in wealth management. A CFA definitely helps in this field. MBAs are generally super expensive ($200k+ plus the opportunity cost of two years of foregone compensation) and I haven’t seen it give anyone a leg up unless they’re looking to switch career industries entirely or to start their own businesses/companies.

CFA your company will most likely help pay for & MBA won’t be relevant until 4/5 years+ down the line most likely.

I’d focus on CFA for now and join the MBA bowl here if you’re looking to better understand what the reqs are.

Hope this helps: https://www.wallstreetmojo.com/cfa-vs-mba/#:~:text=CFA%20focuses%20on%20enhancing%20investment,read%20more%20etc.

Awesome appreciate you guys

So as a 30ish yo with a government/PE/tech background and CIPM/CIPP… I’m finding privacy work is just much easier and interesting than other kinds, but still pays plenty well.

Is it too late/inadvisable to go to law school to specifically aim for privacy work?

I just find some firms are unwilling to entertain the idea that anyone but a lawyer has anything relevant to contribute in this space…

I just listened to an interview of a creative director recount their path towards copywriting at a famous ad agency. It could not have been a more textbook case of failing upwards as a white man.

It would seem the only thing you need to make it as an advertising creative is to have lots of not particularly original ideas. Practically every other skill is unnecessary. If you’re a white man.

That this level of mediocrity passes for talent explains why so many agency briefs are so lame.

Graduating from part-time MBA in May, have been working as a product manager in tech for 2 years and prior to that 5 years in BI/data analytics. I’m at a new company now and I’m disliking PM more every day. I’m thinking about doing JIT recruiting for investment banking to get strategic finance jobs in tech in 1-2 years but we’re having a baby in August. Is it stupid to try to pull off a pivot like that? I value WLB and want to be able to take paternity leave when our daughter is born

Not sure if opportunity cost (spend 200K+ on MBA, lose on potential EM salary) is worth the generalist degree/MBA network that may balance the hyper specialized experience I’ve had, and if it would help with long term career likely in pharma and/or biotech VC

Hi everyone! I’m just preparing for the real world outside of college with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, but I’ve been stuck in between going to grad school or entering straight into industry. I want to lean more towards the area of computer science to further my studies and career, however, I’ve been advised by some to just learn it on the side and go straight into the workforce and find another role eventually down the road. What are your thoughts? I have little coding experience btw.

Is it worth obtaining a CPA license in today’s environment? I keep seeing posts about how accounting isn’t what it used to be anymore and other career paths are now making more money and working less than those in accounting. I also keep seeing people discuss how the hours working in PA are just piling up more and more, even as you get promoted to manager and senior positions due to demand. Any insights for those just coming out of studying accounting and obtaining a CPA or not?
