But my MBA is so worth it!!! It got me into big 4 consulting!!!!

MBA great for career change into more competitive industry. Largely useful if stuck in accounting, back or middle office, or implementation/tech roles with minimal career and monetary advancement opportunities. 99% of it is all networking anyway

This is true.

Top MBA programs are increasingly becoming less competitive and the number of GMAT takers has been declining in the last 5 years for a reason (did projects on this btw so I have hard evidence for this). Business schools are going to fight this trend with all they have because the frat group they have built in corporate America is all they got outside of getting paid off to support Wall Street’s theories that lead to the next financial crisis.

like

MCK1 - look at the history of financial crises and who in this country supports lack of regulations on Wall Street and who supports their “academic” work. I also recommend you check where business schools make their money. They would be as poor as math departments if the MBA programs in the US were as big as those in Europe. Frat group was a reference to the exclusivity they have built in corporate America and how they actively try to hire themselves and prevent others from getting into the jobs MBA did. traditionally. Not sure where you were before McKinsey but McKinsey is a lot better at giving opportunities to different educational backgrounds. Tons of advanced degree holders at McKinsey. In other strategy shops, MBAs have built exclusive clubs and only pad each other on the back.

I agree - but I’m very fortunate and lucky I was in a position where my MBA was paid for, so I went ahead and got it

like

That’s the only smart way to get an mba

like

The issue I see is that it’s just become the trend to get an MBA regardless of their profession. If you work in technology for example, chances are that a masters specializing in a discipline like InfoSec, ICS, Cyber Risk, or Cyber Policy is going to be highly valuable and improve your value rather then an MBA.

like

This is also true.

For some MBAs make sense, for some an MBA would be a horrible investment. Some people with MBAs are douches, so to are many without them. Why does this always turn into a pissing match. No one cares (accept I guess consulting firms that pay MBAs more for similar roles)?

like

MBAs teach you to operate a business, but are not as useful at teaching you how to be an innovative creator. The world needs both.

MBAs like any investment are only worth it if the ROI is there. For me, it happens to give me a much higher income than I’d have without it. I also recognize that’s often not the case. And it’s also possible to make more money without one. Idk why people act like it’s such a hot take to get one or not. Just do an analysis based on your situation and goals

A coworker this week told me I look 13. I know I have a baby face but that’s so rude! I should have told her she looked 50 (she’s not 50)

MBB folks, what’s the glamour with FAANG to you? I ask because I have done multiple strategy projects for/with FAANG, and could likely get an offer, but I still want MBB 🤨 Am I missing something?

Have any of you quit to take a break - 3 month or a 6 month sabbatical to pursue other interests or just to clear your head and figure out what’s next. How easy was it to find a job after the break and how did you manage your health insurance? Any other things to keep in mind when considering a sabbatical beyond money?

thoughts on switching to clearview hcp from ZS? Wlb seems to be a pain point (not sure how much to be worried tbh), but the comp also much more attractive. Rest looks similar? Thinking of going at AP level.. so far people seem nice (+ impressive vault reviews)
