I’d say, stay. You go back to a place with street cred and much easier to move to Manager. after that, switch easily as Managers are rare commodity across this industry. if you can get into MBB now, you can get into MBB later. why burn 200K
It’s tougher to switch as a manager than consultant to MBB, you’ll likely have to come in as consultant, unless you have a very differentiated skill set
OP- do you have an offer? If you do, I’m sure MBB HR can help you think through the differences.
Personally I think you need to ask what you want to get out of consulting. If you intend to make Partner, MBB will pay considerably better. If you intend to stay a few years and then jump to industry, to be honest it probably doesn’t matter which path you take.
FWIW, MBB has similar starting pay for post-MBA role, but diverging philosophies as you grow more senior. (Eg, BCG has a very transparent base salary for all levels, with differences in performance reflected in bonus range; McK has meaningfully salary and base progression every year based on performance). So it’s not apples and apples and YMMV will vary substantially within MBB
I believe the rest of MBB is matching BCG's 165 post MBA salary. I believe ACN Strat is 140 for the equivalent role?
It’s a complex question - do you load it with bonuses? Where you at, this varies by geography. No one can answer this question fully except HR as time stamps themselves also adjust for the pay markers.
The other question is, is the sponsorship a limited commodity ie. relative merit, at Accenture? Or by absolute merit? If the latter, I wouldn’t feel too guilty by taking the sponsorship, hunt around, and see for yourself when doors are actually open and options are on the table (?)
Sorry, for context - I am already sponsored and am at a top 3 business school. I would have to go back for 2 years
It’s more than what Accenture Strategy is at every level, especially considering bonus. Average bonus is more than what most people get for distinctive achievement
This is all good context. I’m already a manager at accenture so starting comp is basically the same (170k for manager at accenture vs 165 for MBB associate) my thinking is that MBB salaries grow more rapidly after the two year mark (correct me if I’m wrong) plus it’s challenging to get into MBB from other consulting firms....but hard to turn down the sponsorship! So torn....
OP - When you say Accenture Strategy sponsorship, are you referring to a full coverage of your MBA tuition? I thought Accenture only partially covered MBA tuition, something like $50k a year limit
