Am curious since I’m just starting to learn about MBB and consulting in general, how long does it take for a BA to get to EM? Heard someone going from one to the other within 2year time frame, was wondering if that is even achievable
MBB folks, what project mix are you getting these days? Lots of growth strategy, market entry, due diligences and operational efficiency? Or stuck in PMO land?
I have a 3.4 at ND and a strong resume otherwise. Do I have a shot at top non-MBB digital transformation/strategy positions (Accenture, Deloitte, L.E.K. Consulting, IBM Consulting)? If so, how should I go about dealing with it?
Diversity quota is real: both for B-School admissions/scholarships and MBB recruiting.
Readers be warned. Your skills don’t matter as much as you think.
That is all.
Hello! I'm starting an MBB consulting job this spring and I want to make sure that I spend & save responsibly.
Here are some questions I have:
What's a reasonable percentage of monthly net income to spend on rent in a HCOL city? Right now it looks it will be 37% but that seems high.
After clearing debt, 6 mo emergency fund, maxing 401k contributions, what's next? Mega backdoor Roth IRAs seem a little overwhelming, maybe something like a HYSA or just a trading account?
Appreciate your help!
Is strategy consulting (even MBB) losing it's charm nowadays with the world moving more towards implementation projects and better opportunities available outside which have good pay as well as better WLB?
Something like what happened with IB roles which were all the rage in B Schools few years back but now have tapered off a lot.
What are the daily hours like for larger transformation cases at MBB - are they less burn than traditional “strategy” cases and if so by how much?
I'm trying to get into MBB for SC strategy consulting roles. I'm working for a boutique analytics consulting firm and I've done a fair bit of Supply Chain Modeling. Any leads would be helpful!
Anyone able to share the current post MBA salaries at each of the MBB. If they haven’t been raised recently, any word of incoming increases?
Additional data point for a current M7 candidate debating whether to stay in the US or return to SG - recent US salary increases are very tempting.
I need help making up my mind on where to attend.
So I have two offers on the table : Tuck vs Yale SOM. I am getting 40k scholarship from Tuck and nothing from Yale.
I'm planning on going into consulting afterwards and am not sure what school to attend. I know Tuck's group oriented teaching is slightly more geared towards consulting.
What has been making me hesitate is the global presence of what Yale has in its name.
Would you say Yale has almost equal chance of getting into MBB as Tuck?
Current non-SWE Googler in interviews for Partner role in MBB. I have previously worked at MBB at the Analyst level and disliked the “grind” / lack of autonomy in that role. Is it better at the Partner level? How much agency would I have over my schedule and what I decide to work on? What are the biggest challenges as a boomerang Partner?
What time of year is best for jumping to MBB as someone with 6months-1.5 YOE in consulting from a shop like ClearView/Putnam/ZS?
Anyone previously from a T2 firm that transitioned to MBB willing to chat?
Looking to hear about how you made the transition, interview process, and how you’ve enjoyed the firm so far.
MBB folks - do you have teams that do external research /outside-in analysis and data gathering for you or y'all do it yourselves?
Alvarez & Marsal Kearney Strategic Operations practice vs Alvarez & Marsal auto and industrials group.
Which one is better to join considering variety in projects / exit to MBB or industry strategy roles?
Kearney Alvarez & Marsal
Any partners here that moved across MBB in the last five years? Would be interested in hearing experiences of what was similar/different.
If most of the partners I work with are ex-MBB (at a T2) is that indicative of potential success at MBB?
How does your firm deal with underperforming associates? We are crazy busy but have a couple first-years on vacation, 50-100 hours per month, and thinking we are a "lifestyle" firm. I don't want to just fire them, at least not yet, but I want to see a change. How many second chances do you give? How many months under budget?
Lol damn sooooon
Anyone here is pediatric psychologist. I desperately need help with my 5 years old daughter’s behavior please
Does getting married make loneliness go away?
Whenever I talk about being lonely or bored, family says it’s time for me to get married, that will solve everything. I don’t believe that. For context, I am a Indian M, 30.
When I could expect the offer from Mindtree. I am following up with HR since 25 days and he said , approval is in line and soon they will release offer.
Today, HR person called and took one screenshot of mine through TEAMS amd informed it's needed before offer relase.
Do in-house roles have conflicts checks?
Hi all, I’ve recently onboarded as an HR recruiter with a small NGO. It has been wonderful so far. I want to make the most of my new role. If you have any suggestions or advise, I’d greatly appreciate it.
If anyone is interested in data analytics with some accounting knowledge with over a year experience out of college and in the US, feel free to DM
McKinsey and BCG, you guys are broken and making us all look bad. Get some talent and some senior people in execution. Stop with the inexperienced nonsense. Quality and results driven work or fold up shop. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/08/22/private-consultants-vaccination-drive-outsourced/

My previous role was TL role but in TCS I have been offered initially AST role for which I was very happy but later while document verification HR identified a gap in the experience and have changed the role to IT analyst but the salary hike was not reduced . How long would it take for me to get promoted to AST role. I re-checked with HR if my role is still going to be a TL role after getting hired she mentioned 'yes' but there will be project specific roles.
Any book recommendations?
Would anyone be able to shed some light on the case portion for roles within tech strategy (TS)? Are these in-line with traditional cases (GTM, profitability, market sizing etc.) or technology cases (frameworks centric - PPT, IITL, CMMI, etc.). Appreciate any guidance!
Any interesting sources to keep oneself updated with design trends?
I for one enjoy www.growth.design very much!! :)

I was offered a job at Owens Corning in strategy and the background check includes a drug test. Do you know if they test for THC or if firms often test for THC in drug tests?
Is the MBB brand name really that worth it outside of consulting? At a T2 doing largely similar work with C-Level clients and contemplating if the move makes sense (beyond pay).
Hi 🐠s! I am forced to flight AA next week and have "cattle" status. Any tips on how to get a status match without having to pay?
New hire here. I have about $10k in the bank and $10k investment portfolio (started with $3k and grew over past 2 months). Should I adjust this ratio to have more in the bank? Looking for some guidance.

Accepted an offer from McKinsey, will be joining as an Associate in Spring 2022. Background check was completed in October but no correspondence since then. I understand that it's a busy season for the HR folks, but is this common? Just getting impatient about the next steps (start date, signing bonus, visa sponsorship etc.) Any advice 🐠 ?
Just got my AWS Cloud Practitioner cert and am looking to get something more Strategy or Finance related. Anyone done any good Certs lately?
I have no idea what that sentence means
What is a SBA
Like 1 yr exp, 2 yrs
And yes we are increasingly hiring laterals though you will probably start entry level
Senior Business Analyst (at least at ATK) means that you've been at the firm for 1-2 years and have gotten a promotion from the entry-level position
Lateral business hire at Senior Business Analyst level at a tier 2 firm (I assume Big 4, Accenture, etc)
You don't make the cut for mbb. Look at the way you write.
Yeah - we do lateral hires like that. Generally salary will be even or better but will be with entry level position, like BCG1 said
Salary for us will be set at entry level levels. We have standardized pay
I've seen a few laterals but they always stepped down. Post mbas start as associates (entry level post MBA role), bachelors only start as new analysts. The only exceptions I've seen are at the partner level, but I've never seen anyone come in as a manager etc
If you're pre-MBA, you'd likely come in as an associate (out undergrad entry level). That's not a bad thing. You don't want to be compared to our A2s right away. They've got similar experience but know our firm, our methods, and have a network already. High expectations. Besides, it's only 2 years from entry formats post-MBA role (and comp).
Have you guys seen a lot of MBB laterals? We recently had a guy from BCG start as a 2nd year BA after being an associate for a year so I guess for MBB laterals you can come in at the same level? Have ya'll seen that for you too?
To clarify - salary will be a step up from your current big 4, but same as usual starting salary - sounds like same thing across MBB
I hold a masters in economics and just started working with Deloitte as a first job. What level should I expect to come at and how many years of experience should I apply after?
Lateral hires are pretty rare in my office / region. We have more than enough coming in via campus recruiting.
Have only seen MBB laterals at PL (2 ppl) and Partner (pure commercial poaching).
With exception of partner-level, not really. I'm sure it happens but I'd figure it's more an exception than the rule. Feels like most people's view would be that they're already at a top mgmt consulting firm...if they're going to leave, it's for the right industry exit, not more of the same but with different people.
