MBB folk, for your post -MBA role, when those folk join, do they lead models / key analytical work streams or focus more on project management, methodology, etc. while the post- undergrad hires handle most of the analytical execution work?

At McKinsey there is no difference between a BA or Associate role in terms of role expectations. Both have same role expectations based on their tenure at the firm. Part of the reason we discontinued the BA->ASC->EM trajectory and changed it to BA-> EM. Its just that BAs have an extra year to make EM if they want to take it slower. I don’t even look at whether the person is BA or ASC during staffing. All I care about is their total tenure given that is what matters. Btw the highest ROI in my view is second year and third year BAs. Lower per diems - same or better performance in my experience as similar tenured ASCs. If I see them on the list I call them right away.

Agree with second/third year pre-MBA hires being the most efficient - same goes for us 😊

Not necessarily - MBA hires do need to build analytical chops firsthand before playing more managerial/qualitative roles, so they’ll push on that front for the first 12-15 months (in addition to having client facing opportunities since no case is 100% quant vs client). Similarly, pre-MBA hires are expected to build up analytical chops during their first year and then start doing more client facing things. I’d say the expectations for pre-MBA and post-MBA new hires are comparable; there’s just an accelerated learning curve for post-MBA folks since they are closer to the Manager role (usually 2-3 years away). Pre-MBA folks start managing folks in 2-3 years but then have another 2-3 before they make Manager (if they’re good enough to “direct promote” to the post-MBA role without business school).

The latter. LEK is unique in post-MBA project leadership

^^Exactly staffing does not ever put a 100% green team on a M without releasing them of double staffing or some other accommodation. When they do need to do a junior team Ms will typically bump up to 100% for short term to provide coverage (often leading to better client deliverables). Only when post-MBAs are done shadowing (after 3 months) but before really getting it (at 6 months) will it be a bit harder. But even in these cases they always get staffed with a 2 yr+ undergrad. So clients don’t notice. Only issue can be Manager burn out as it does still take more effort to coach up the post-MBA while double staffed.

I got very little analytical exposure post MBA

I have a standing offer with Accenture (AFS). Due to coronavirus, the recruiter told me they are pausing staffing of external people like myself while they take care of internal people on the bench. My recruiter said he would touch base monthly during covid, but usually I’m the one to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since mid March, so should I reach out? I totally understand if they’re still in the same position as before and nothing changed since mid March in terms of hiring.
