In NA offices, we don't do a lot of experienced hires.
See, top business schools aren't increasing the size of their classes, yet MBB are growing at rapid pace. Means we need to find other pools of talent otherwise we just lower the bar which is not acceptable
Number of lateral / experienced hires is steadily rising. Referral goes a long way.
I applied online as an experienced hire, can only think of a few other experienced hires. Not uncommon, but not the norm, guessing ~10%.
Depends what role you are aiming for. If consultant, you are compared to the MBA grads in terms of experience. For associate, you should do it earlier rather than later as you'll be in mix with undergraduates on their first job.
Less of a crapshoot if you have a referral

How many years of experience would you recommend prior to applying? Also, would having gone to a state school / average undergrad GPA hurt me if I'm 4 years into working? Debating if I want to apply now to one of your firms, then apply to grad school with another 2 years of experience, or just apply to grad school 2017 R1.

I'd recommend MBA, then try for MBB. If you try now, you might have to start at the same level as the undergrads. And better chances from MBA, experienced hire recruiting is a crapshoot.

Depends. Growth has been pretty incredible, so we've had to did deep for lateral and ADCs. Those also help smooth onboarding.
