MBB 🐠, I aspire to get into MBB eventually. Trying to understand sincerely, what makes working at MBB so challenging? Have you felt like you’ve hit a limit and can’t get better at what you do? Why?

I don’t think it’s that challenging from a task perspective. The travel makes it a bit tough on life stuff.

I’m not at that limit yet - just when you feel like you’ve mastered a skill set, you’ll get promoted and have to face a new challenge, which to me is exciting and motivating

like

The bar is constantly being raised so it's very difficult to actually hit a limit. You move from tackling discrete tasks to owning discrete pieces of work to owning abstract pieces of work to actually defining the work in the first place. This all happens at a pace that is fairly rapid (in comparison to the broader consulting market). There is also an extremely high bar on the quality of the work we put out; when bill rates are as high as they are for MBB, there are lofty expectations set by senior clients.

like

Discrete piece of work: we want to know whether customers prefer speed of delivery or customization of a product. Abstract piece of work: customers are buying competitors' products over ours and we don't know why

I def need to go get an MBA and try at MBB again, I just feel underworked and bored at the D. Don’t have any issues with doing any work regardless of how tedious it is, just there isn’t enough

like

I’ve read a bunch of threads on this so far but I guess, I’m not really understanding. Trying to get a real appreciation of the complexity of things. Like are there certain skills that you can’t develop over time?

OP, It’s a job after all.

Agree with Bain1, it’s a lot about being expected to independently figure out uncertainties and develop new content without previous knowledge/a clear reference point. So in a sense being able to structure your thoughts fast and find a path forward in new situations is part of the challenge.

The travel is why I haven’t even applied to any of them. I think lots o people in our craft, outside of MBB are capable of the tasks but are deemed to lack the stamina.

Anyone else struggle with the strategic/bigger picture element of account management? I like working with clients, but I struggle with these aspects. I’m the only Account lead on 3 accounts (aside from a director who isn’t too present) - no AE or AAEs for support. Most of my days are crammed with day to day work just to keep projects moving; it doesn’t leave a lot of time for building these skills up. Can’t tell if I’m just not cut out for AM or if it’s worth it to keep trying to improve this...

I have seen many SAP ABAP professionals posted here that they had got offers from SAP Labs.
I have also noticed comparatively their CTC is on the higher side than the other tech stacks in a particular T level.

How is ABAP as a module? Why does it seem so important to SAP Labs? What is the future scope? And what do you think about it? Please share your opinion, anything you can write.

I am an SAP Basis guy and am thinking of learning ABAP also side by side. Cause I think Basis is dying.

Hello everyone, I have an initial screen with a recruiter this week for a role on the AWS ISV partner sales team. The title indicates it’s a “senior manager” level which would be a step down from where I am now (Director), but I’m willing to have the conversation since I’m very interested in the company. What level can I expect this to be at (I’m not familiar with the L5s, L6s etc. leveling), what salary range is reasonable for that level (OTE, base and commissions)? I’m in NYC/10 YOE.

I'm a Sr Analyst on a Knowledge track, 6 months from reaching Specialist (Associate equivalent).

I've been offered to switch track to BA -> sponsored MBA -> Associate.

I'm 36. Compensation-wise and taking into account the sponsored MBA, it makes a lot of sense.

But the quick jump to Specialist and a potential horizontal move to Associate is also attractive.

Any advice? Thinks to consider? What would be the better option? Move to BA or stay on the knowledge path?
