Real talk: Bain is on the wrong side of a game where scale matters. Hence the slower progression (6 years to M vs 4 for us vs 3-4 for McK) and lower comp.
If you are lateraling in, your start over as a new associate. 90k base/100-120k with bonus and retirement.
If you’ve been at BCG for 2 years, you would have just been promoted to Consultant (the post MBA role) which is 200-220k all-in.

Pretty sure at Bain the progression goes from 80 to 85k to 100k to 140-150k with MBA and each year an additional 15-25% bonus. How the heck are McKinsey and BCG paying so much more
Similar to BCG1 for us. I think ~5% lower but pretty much the same. Also huge variability depending on performance. A top performing BA after 2 years could make 50k more than an average one
Def bigger spread than us. We wouldn’t see a $50k spread from avg/on track to rockstar until PL1. More like $20-30k at the levels below that. And $100k by Principal 2
What’s the salary difference between BCG and BCG Platinion, seems like Platinion offers lower package.
Lateral SC to Platinion, 4 years exp total. 140k total package.
In very simple terms, Plat is tech consulting focused on IT Implementation, Cybersecurity, and Risk Management. I’d imagine the tech scale at most consulting firms is lower than the MC/Strat scale although we don’t really use those terms
It’s because McK and BCG don’t have a 3rd year analyst position (SAC at Bain). The salaries are the same: 1st year Analyst is 90 (2019) and 1st year Associate is 165 (2019). This is base only, TC will be 10-30% higher based on tenure / performance
I agree - but there are a few differences when it comes to an M at Bain vs McK/BCG. 1. M at Bain always manages a team of 4+ which is not always the case at McK/BCG (per my understanding). 2. M at Bain always reports to a Partner. 3. 1st year M at Bain gets paid significantly more than Mck/BCG.
Agreed. But if you look at time to partner from mba at BCG vs Bain the difference is 1 year. So it’s not super significant. If you join Bain after undergrad you’re behind by an additional year, but to be honest inside the firm you’re given responsibilities above you’re level. But I think that the BCG and McK model is better.
Very possible to come to BCG as a first year associate with two years working experience, with no tenure credit. Depends on how relevant experience and how attractive your profile/bargaining power
