MBB- when’s an appropriate time to start taking PTO after you start your first job? I just graduated, start my role in July, and was hoping to take a day or two off in September to travel/see family. However, I heard a rule of thumb that you shouldn’t take vacation in the first 6 months of your new role. Any thoughts? TIA!

Any attorneys in the Bay Area practicing just in estate planning (not litigation), can you give your take on whether you would get enough business to do only planning? I'm currently doing family law and I want to start moving away from litigation. For family law there really isn't a non litigation role that produces enough business (i.e. mediation). Hello. I recently accepted a position as Assistant Nurse Manager at a busy Cancer Center in Brooklyn. I have leadership roles such as charge nurse over the 8 years I’ve been an RN so Ive never had an official management role. I have my BSN and OCN. The AVP agreed to match my current salary which is 6 figures because I refused to accept the salary he was offering for $5K less. Did I accept an unfair offer or should I expect that because of my lack of experience in management? Thanks

I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?

I’m extremely interested in the applications of data science and statistics within the public policy and research sects and this would be a good professional opportunity for me. However, I am quite aware of how problematic the Peace Corps is (i.e. white saviorism). Is it better to gain professional experience in a place I don’t support or reject the offer?
