MBB, would you be in consulting for the long term and try to make partner if it wasn't for the travel and impact on family life?

Personally, I make the decision to stay at about 6 months at a time, by asking myself 3 questions: 1) am I still learning what I want to learn, 2) am I still passionate about the work and 3) am I able to do what's most important in my personal life. If yes to all 3, then stay, if not, I figure out if the job is the root cause of the problem, if so, consider looking.

I would not. It occurred to me rather early on that if given the choice between the job of a fairly senior client (F500 VP) and a partner, I'd take the job and the future prospects of the VP. As a consultant you never have the kind of ownership or accountability that I am seeking. For now, consulting still seems like an excellent way to turbocharge that path.

More likely if travel and family impact wasn't a concern. Still not certain I want consulting as a job long-term (engineering background, I wanna do a startup eventually)

Ditto above. Most post-MBA are probably giving a good effort for partner though it's not commonly discussed b/c everyone has a personalized tolerance for travel/family impact & different abilities to make it work (e.g. spousal career, client locality, life stage, leadership support, etc.)

My first mentor told me the same thing as B1. Absolutely agree that you have to take it year to year. Right now, I see myself staying to partner, but I also have no kids. Once that happens, my husband and I will have to have this type of check in more regularly.

Bain 1 I really love that approach

B1, a lot of Boston Bainies I know have said the same thing. Love that approach.

Usually I try to live in the moment, but other times things come to mind from the past that make my life feel like it could be a soap opera. For example, I crushed on a guy from school for a few years, and one night as a young adult, found us both drunk alone in my apartment. A few months later he texted me and said he just got married at the courthouse and that I should be in the wedding party when covid was over. It shouldve happened by now but it hasnt yet…👀🙂

Any process recruiting right now ? Or has hiring been slow this year?

I hate the fact that when recruiters reach out they don’t say what the salary range is, virtual or in-person, weekly hour expectations, how big the accounting department is, or literally anything you would want to know before deciding whether an interview is worth your time.

Anyone know why Advisory can't see the comp statements yet?...as they were supposed to be available today...

My principal approached me in the car pick up line on Friday to inform me that I’ve taken to many days off & school has just started. I took 1day off when my daughter tested positive for Covid, I had an doctor’s appt that had been scheduled 6 months ago to see the hematologist. Being that I’m anemic, current labs showed I need to have 2 iron infusions. I put in for 2 more days off to have that done. He told me in the future to wait until a work day! We done have any until December!!
