I take the IR version of Adderall which allows for flexibility and my psych and I came up with a solution for days I have too much work, which is take a third dose of IR. Normally I take 10mg in the morning then 10 mg at noon, but if know I need to work late I’ll take a third dose of 5 or 10mg at 4pm. I try not to do this because that third dose really impacts my sleep, but it’s good to have the option if I’m overwhelmed.
This is a really supportive, helpful bowl and all consultants have these same problems so please don’t try to make tiers in this group. ADHD isn’t different if you work at MBB or do strategy work. We all have the same struggles so let’s not try to be so exclusive and make this a place where we can all be candid.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. 🧠
Feedback taken. Sorry about that! I was hinting at long project hours which strategy usually lends itself to. I guess I should write that instead. Just trying to probe for how adhd consultants maintain high performance on the tough 60-70hour/week projects.
I’m not in MBB or in strategy but I found that the following things helped me:
1. Make the time for an hour of exercise at least 5 days a week. The mood boost, energy boost, and sleep regulation help makes things less overwhelming throughout the week. This should be prioritized above work
2. I pick a day or two a week where my only goal is to get as much work done as possible. I take adderall on these days only. During the rest of the week, I don’t put much pressure on myself and I am maybe 60-70% productive but I don’t fall behind bc I knocked out the crucial stuff earlier.
3. Take the time to keep up with a detailed list of tasks and in meetings, take short but good notes just to jog my memory and maintain my focus. I set up 10 min on my calendar morning and afternoon to update my to do list and I reference my meeting notes while updating to make sure I am remembering everything
Also I’m quitting my job in a month 😌 I think consulting is a good fit for my personality but working these crazy hours is not worth it for me. Now that we’re working from home and I’m not traveling, it feels like a normal job with crazy hours lol
Tell your doctor and work with them to get you the meds that work for long hours? I think they generally expect people to work 8 so let them know
A friend is on 30mg adderall XR twice a day, so finding a doctor that listens to your needs with meds. But also depends on the person as omg I couldn’t handle another XR and sleep
Lol I think they put me on a 45-55mg dose of XR and I felt almost nothing
Quitting strategy consulting 🤣 not worth the extra headaches or the low comp per hour
So far I’m in a tech scale up running product strategy — it might just be the space of any strategy that’s always a headache (new realization)
