I’m always amazed that people think we work in a linear and ideal world. Being on both sides is quite common at firms this big. Not saying it’s right, but it’s the reality.

Well, the way McKinsey has spoken about Russia….

Why read the article and deal in facts when you can just pile on big bad McKinsey?

The ‘if you work at McK you’re partly responsible’ is my favorite post. 10/10 👍

In before:
It's not what it looks like
It's not a big deal
It's out of context
Axe to grind
Everybody does it
Y'all hate us cuz you ain't us

Forgot the:
It's ok for Russian consultants to be unethical in Russia

As much as I think McK has a governance issue, I'm surprised anyone is surprised about this. What'd you all expect the russian consultants in the Moskau office be working on? NGOs and startups?

Serious question - do Russian partners run the consulting gauntlet first or do firms just hire the most connected people?

I realize connections also matter a great deal elsewhere, but seems to me with Russia’s economy being so heavily state owned it might be a bit different.

If u work at McKinsey you are partly responsible

I'm shocked 🙄

Man, y’all really love letting McK live rent-free in your minds huh. It’s a global company and looks like the article even says there’s no evidence a conflict of interest was present, and that other companies work with Russian entities as well… But apparently what sets McK apart is that people love hating on them

All McK defenders on the thread, I agree it is ludicrous to expect McK’s russian entity to not work with russian state owned firms, anf the article also has it buried deep that other pro serv firms do this too. That said, given the # of governqnce misses McKinsey has had lately, people have no problem believing the headline means McK did comething wrong. Instead of focusing on the noise, McK needs to fix the governance problem at hand

You do realize it’s possible for people to both be fixing the problem and addressing the noise at the same time right? Besides, I’m willing to bet a number of the “McK defenders” here aren’t the ones with the power to actually fix governance structure or only have limited power to do so (e.g., don’t even work there, aren’t partners).

Anyways, reporters will always over-index on the most sensational things they can find, which usually means they over-index on scrutinizing the top names in any field.

My understanding is they stopped after the war broke out though?

Let’s just agree McK is evil and move on.

Let’s make mckinsey great again

What does burnout feel like for you?
I’ve been pedal to the metal, launching one or both of my two brands, filling in for departed managers AND direct reports who weren’t replaced, and living through pandemic madness for over a year now. The work never stops but I have never felt less engaged. The word “kickoff” fills me with despair. I’m burned to a crisp, right?

This is a bit of a strange question to ask but, are there any really nice companies to work for in NYC anymore? I know it’s a blanket question— culture is important but it depends on your manager and your colleagues, too, which can be awful even in a nice company. I had a great job at a really nice company, awesome CHRO, great HR team, and we got acquired. That company sucked, as did the next company I joined and now I am working for a company with a verbally abusive CEO.

This is a question for senior level agency creatives (ACD and up I guess?) who have gone in house for FANG type places. It seems like the escape hatch from agency life. But what would you say...you DO there?

Like could you describe a project for a Facebook/Google creative team, and what you did, and what happened? I just dont ever see anything I recognize as creative work. So like, day to day....do you?

Hi!! Any tips/stories on actively interviewing while ✨pregnant pregnant✨. (27 weeks)

All potential positions are fully remote, and they are all Mkting Manager/Senior Mkting Manager roles. I have three 2nd interviews coming up, and I am struggling with when to disclose! Two of the companies seem very mom-inclusive so far, so part of me wants to be upfront/honest to build a positive rapport as well as potentially negotiate maternity leave that I would otherwise not qualify for this far along!

Would love to get insight into the level of attrition that you see at PE firms.

How many new analysts/associates can I expect for a GE fund to hire each year? I understand each firm/office has varying needs, but I'm struggling to wrap my head around why anyone would even consider T2 consultants, even at the consulting-friendly shops.

Not enough MBB consultants interested in PE to fill all the ex-consultant spots? Personal goal is to build a fighting chance to exit into GE or MM PE

Thoughts on Essence ?

Looking for some guidance. I just started my career from undergrad as an IT consultant, primarily doing implementation work. I plan to stay at my firm for min of 2 years before grad school/another firm. As an implantation consultant, what is the traditional route/what have you done. With covid, it’s been difficult to connect and find mentors. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you

Feel the pressure building up. This spring is about as compressed as it can get. Hold on to your seats.

Should I quit? Audit staff 1, received an industry offer for $65k plus 5% bonus. About 40 hours a week, 50 during month end, 55 during quarter end. They seem to promote from within, too.

20+ YOE in Tax Accounting, looking to change. 3 years ago started working on projects and assisted with Oracle Cloud conversion. Fell in love with the analytic/consulting/project related side and now looking to move my career in that direction. I have basic knowledge of SQL, Alteryx, and a few other platforms. Currently interviewing with OSV as a Tax Consultant. What advice can you give to make this transition? What companies would be good to apply with? I have more rejections than interviews.
