It isn't, but it ties into how McKinsey positions itself as a quasi-academic institution. I understand how it can come across as insufferably pretentious, but in an industry where we're essentially selling expertise, framing an organization as one that is at the forefront of taking an academic approach to the problems of business is strategic positioning that has historically been critical to Mckinsey's success.
Not sure why you asked the question if you didn't want the answer OP. I also don't think there's anything disingenuous about the way McKinsey markets itself. Between the McKinsey global institute, and various McKinsey publications, we do a ton of academic work, much of which is held in fairly high regard. Thought leadership is something every consulting firm tries to demonstrate to clients btw, it's just been a historical strength of McKinsey. Other firms, BCG being a prime example with the growth/share matrix, have built their business on presenting themselves as curators/developers of new and innovative business thought.
^calm down OP you sound like a douche
But why are you so salty, OP?
He looked at his pay stub and also saw yours
M1 - with the most McKinsey response I can imagine
Well, I do work there...
Lol @ any consultant that disses another consultant for talking with fancy words. That's like 99% of our job bro.
There really needs to be a salt emoji
WORLDSTAR! WORLDSTARRRR!!!
I second the douche comment. And I do like the BS that MCK put together. 👍
OP. What up with the animus? M1 was gracious enough to answer the question you asked.
Yes good point. I'm sure you guys win all sorts of work because of the word 'Study'. Sounds like a true edge over other consulting firms competing for the same work 🙄.

Why art thou salty, OP?
Why call it an engagement then? Put a bloody ring on it
It's an extremely minor piece of the total package, OP. I refuse to believe that you lack the most basic knowledge of marketing.
MCK gave the simplest answer to OPs question. Thread should've ended there, but instead it goes down in 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@OP the use of bro isn't literal.
They call studies or cases what we call assessments, i.e. the projects you do to understand what the problems is and recommend a solution which then gets implemented.
This thread is hysterical 👏🏻🤣
