A payout to each family affected by their actions would be a great start. Even then, doesn’t fix the harm they caused

Review the regulations in the finance industry. It was Wild West before 2008. But now it’s much more strict and it benefits everyone. Consulting seems to need the same kind of regulations to stop wrong doing. Otherwise greed takes over.

They should get fined more than that amount. There are too many people got addicted and died. They advised their client to provide rebates for addiction.

Even for a firm Mckinseys size, that’s gotta be a hefty blow. I wonder what awful things they expected to come out of trial if they are willing to “settle” for half a billion.

I get the joke. I don’t get why I’d ever want to work at McK. And that was before these countless scandals. K1 I don’t know universe in which our culture wouldn’t be stream rolled by McK. Tom made the right call back in 1939!

“McKinsey worked with Purdue executives in finding ways “to counter the emotional messages from mothers with teenagers that overdosed” on the drug.” Speechless.

To be fair, there’s nothing to say. Outside of a few outliers, everyone is disgusted. Some will say things like “can’t control a huge firm. There are always bad apples” and “this isn’t the McKinsey I know” but I hope that, despite saying that, they support firing the Partners involved and overhauling the types of engagements their Rx group works on. The CEO of Valeant was also ex-McKinsey. So this is a trend in that group — not a one-off

The way our country reacts to how things affect different groups of people varies wildly on racial and socioeconomic lines, and that is without a doubt immoral and the consequences of how it manifests in our criminal justice system, generational cycles of poverty and lack of opportunity, poor education, inequality, etc., have been tragic and immensely unjust But that doesnt change the fact that this is also tragic and that everyone who played a part in causing it should be punished for it

I’m hoping Arnab and Martin get fired. At least the fine > profits. Which isn’t the case on Wall Street.

Do they have 573 partners? I guess the bonus pool will shrink a little this year. They have involved in many other situations. Do a quick Google search to see tons of articles from NYT. For instance, they worked with Libyan dictator Qaddafi. Another example is that their investment firm is accused of wrong doing. They may face more lawsuits in the future.

SVP1, there is a difference between pushing products on physicians via emails and rep calls and offering a rebate for overdoses. When ZS or whoever pushes, they are trying to optimize marketing cadence, message, etc. I have never seen an incentive idea that said offer rebates for overdoses to ensure sales continue strong. There is a line and they crossed it at full speed. If ZS or anyone else gave similar advice then they should also be held accountable.

Consultants gets no credit when things work well. And always get thrown under the bus when things don't. Hence the high compensation and stressful work, cmon now - we all have to play the part.

I’ve actually found the reverse to be true - failures are written off as poor implementation, successes are attributed to great strategy

$1200 per death. Seems they got off lightly.

Shame to attorneys who settled, they should have gone to court and revealed it all! Put a blew towards the action taken. IDC it was msk any firm who would provide advice to cause death needs to be put to shame.

like

Nonsense, McKinsey agreed to release all opioid related deliverables as part of this settlement. All Purdue deliverables have come out in public as part of its Chapter 11 process.

There will be some companies who see McKinsey as the go to partner to execute unscrupulous plans based on the "success" they had with opioids. Good free advertising to a certain kind of client.

I’m curious how McK partners justified this internally

Justified the work ? Being a partnership means a lot of empowerment to each partner , especially senior partners . This makes the company very decentralized They have implemented more stricter policies to start vetting clients and engagements now as a result . Best way to avoid all this is to have ethical and purposeful leaders / partners

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me.
