MDs introducing themselves to the client: “I am the head of the industry group, have 15 years of experience in this area…”

Analysts introducing themselves to the client:

many times analysts are poorly set up by high level employees in these situations, “so Johnny can you introduce yourself”… Johnny is mostly just there to take notes and obviously in most cases not a SME in the area so why even intro him, just say “Johnny is here to document meeting minutes or actions”

like

I mean we’ve been forced into WFH, no analyst has ever met anyone on the team or client side in person, yeah they’re prolly gonna mess up, but you learn from that

like

Most MDs suck at introducing themselves. Clients don’t care about leading X or having 20 years experience. Their eyes tend to gloss over. And when clients introduce themselves, they usually just say their name and what group or team they are a part of. As an MD, I tell everyone to say your name and what your value is. I’m usually there to bring experiences from when I’ve helped multiple clients in the industry looking to do similar things. An analyst is there to do test and validate hypotheses through market research and analytics, for example. Or you could say why your excited to be on the call (I’ve always been loyal to your competitor and have firsthand experience as a discerning customer in this product class so I’m excited to bring a fresh perspective the CX design). Just be authentic. No BS stretching your experience. Honestly, most in the room can tell you’re young and aren’t expecting you to wow them with your intro. So be memorable by being interesting or articulate.

It’s such a dumb set-up when Partners do this in meetings.

like

Yeah they should also say “I am also Jeff just with a belly and balding head”.

Not going to doxx myself, but partners at my firm told me to stretch my experience as much as I can. 3 months in I already had 15 months experience and my partner smiled at me and we never brought it up. 💁‍♂️

Back in my Big 4 days we were told to answer the experience question with "just under a year" regardless of whether we were just hired from university last week or it had been 11 months.

It’s such a misapplication of the law and a horrendous judge but it’s hard to explain that to the client who is obviously very upset and can’t understand how this happened

You need to coach them and also give them either a client code or practise code to bill time. I never requested for these people but now someone from my space will have to take accountability for these people. Why should i push my team to take additional burden when they already have so much on their plate? And why take a hit on utilisation

What other jobs would require a similar generalist skillset besides project management or product management? I come from a development background who moved into UX space and project management and now playing a product manager hat in my current company, wanting to change jobs but worried my experience may only land me an junior product manager role which results in a $20k pay cut.
Just wanting to explore options and curious in general what other tech roles can a generalist apply for?

Current hh income of about 350k no debt. About to have a baby, and our hh income could go down to 220k if SO does not return to work. Most likely will, but we will not know 100% until we have our first, and could be PT.

Could we afford a monthly payment of $8k? Based on our current income, we can. However, there’s some concern after the baby. This would be a 10 year house, so assume it will be easier to afford over the course of living there.
