Me when I overhear my boss say "they're all going to have to stay late tonight" knowing damn well that we've all been here since 7:30 AM. It's 100% illegal I'm pretty sure but she gets away with it because she has big clients and pays well. I hate working for her but love my job, should I try to talk to someone about it, or will I automatically be fired? Is this just the norm in NYC?

If salaried it is legal. And expected in many companies.
If hourly you should be paid overtime. If not it is likely illegal.

NYC in general is very grindy.

I worked a job in NYC with similar circumstances. I think it's pretty common in fashion in the city at least.

You said you love your job and it pays well. Working long hours is not unusual. If the only issue is your boss’ disrespect for your personal life, you may not be able to find better circumstances elsewhere

Get out now and start looking elsewhere!

PO of 2 years, switched to a new line of business 6m ago. Love the clients, love my team but I’m starting to despise my PM. They were promoted from PO & it has been an off and on struggle for the last year.

The PM refuses to invite me to meetings with stakeholders/withholds information, micromanages my work & throws in injects without discussing them, doesn’t define features but says they’re ready for dev.

I talked to the PM about the communication breakdown, no luck.

Any advice?

I had a performance evaluation last week where I completely fell apart. When asked how I was doing, I responded that I was overwhelmed with work and with the personal animosity of my para who called me a bitch to my face. The partner said that the para is not very good at their job and that I should care a lot less what she thinks of me. I feel like the response was deflecting the issue - she was a bad hire in the first place and more money needs to be spent on staff. Am I off base?

I support the CEO and have for the past 2 years. We have a relatively new CFO (~6 months) and today he off the cuff said “I don’t trust you, and I’m going to start questioning you.” when I informed him the CEO was gone for the day. She has been quite sick for the past two weeks, and I have had to deny several meeting requests from him. Otherwise, I have been nothing but positive and helpful to him. How would you handle this situation? I’m completely baffled.

Look, I don’t want to wear a mask either, but it’s required and we are all in this together. I wish the MTA would enforce this.
