The background: An old one, from my facilities management days. I worked on a college campus, we had a lot of buildings, and a lot of "space." Which resulted in a lot of the staff expecting us to move things “to storage” and just store it forever or whatnot. We had this one lady, she was the department head of the graduate psych program. She was a tool. One day, she asks us to move this armoire to storage. We ask, “is this college furniture?” DH “no, it’s mine, I just need it moved for a little while.” My buddy and I tell her, “Listen, we can store it for 6 months, after which you’ll need to request it be moved back or the space will be reclaimed for the use of the college. There will be no warning if the college makes the choice to remove your item, do you understand?” DH: “Yes, yes, please, I need it out today.” Us: “Okay, we’ll put it in Storage 1. If it moves to storage 2, we can’t make any promises.” DH: “Fine!” 2. Years. Later. DH: “I need my armoire back.” Me: “huh?” DH: “The armoire, you and [buddy] moved it out a little while ago. Me: [thinking to myself] buddy hasn’t worked here in 1.5 years - realizing what she’s talking about. Me: "Yeah, we moved it to Storage 2" DH: "Well move it back." Me: shaking my head, "You don't understand, Storage 2 is a “fluid" location. Things move in and out without warning. I can't currently put my hands on this item. Would you like something different?" DH: "No. That was a family heirloom." Me: "Why did you have a family heirloom in your office, and ask us to store it for you?" DH: "I needed the space!" Me: "Storage 2 is what we call the dumpster." DH: [shocked Pikachu face] “What? Why wasn’t I told?” Me: “We told you, we said “we can store it for 6 months, after which you’ll need to request it be moved back or the space will be reclaimed for the use of the college. There will be no warning if the college makes the choice to remove your item, do you understand” and then I got in trouble for adding this, “For the department head in charge of teaching people how to listen, you’re pretty bad at it.

P&C focused people: What do you do to find success cross-selling life policies? I mostly sell P&C off internet leads. Most are not the ideal client for my company but I take care of them like I would anyone else. I do okay but not great with life after having the client for six months once I move them into a preferred policy. That move saves them enough to make life doable coupled with established trust. I’ve been told just to quote the auto and life together initially but it feels “off” to me.

Is there a way to figure out how many calories your body needs? I’m late 20s female and have always been pretty small (5’5 around 110 lbs) but I feel like I need to eat a tremendous amount of food to keep myself going throughout the day. (I’m not particularly active either.) Sometimes I feel self conscious about it, especially when eating around others because my portions are unexpected due to my size. Could it be fast metabolism? I can gain weight, but not very much. Genuine question here.

1 year old on a cruise? Any tips and tricks? What to bring extra of? What to be mindful of? What did you wish you'd done / brought / known? Baby isn't in daycare yet, just home with us and extended family help. Has gotten his first cold, but nothing else. We take him out weekly and he's very social and adaptable (eats snacks, naps anywhere, formula fed) and loves having new experiences (though at this age everything is new). Cruise life lessons! Tell me everything!!

Had a second baby almost a year ago now and just can’t get back into work mode. I used to be a workaholic and now can’t find any motivation in my current job. Most of it is probably sleep deprivation and feeling like I don’t have any time to myself anymore, plus burnout. Anyone go through this after having kids? How long did it last? I don’t have the option of simply quitting, but contemplating switching to a true 9-5, no-stress job, possibly out of law, while they’re young. But that’s scary.
