Even if opting out of nafta was the right choice (that's a diff argument), don't you think any taxes and tariffs would be better used somewhere else? Building a wall is a ridiculous, frivolous and wasteful undertaking
You're delusional if you believe that claim of 15b. That might be the cost just for the California border. What about a wall do you see as beneficial? You don't think there's other ways that people get through illegally? Overstating tourist visas? Flying to Canada and then crossing the border from there. Hopping on a ship and then getting off there? How about the tunnels that are already built to bring across drugs?
Via taxes/tariffs collected on imports once we leave NAFTA. Not inconceivable.
Jesus if he can scam professionals this easily I can see how he nabbed the uneducated vote with these dumbass slogans
^Dude, the mechanisms are full of shit. On the surface, it looks what you think but it isn't. He's good at fooling naive people like you. He has conned his way through life.
If you leave NAFTA and are imposing trade and tariffs, there will be similar corresponding tariff increases on American goods (I'm aware there already are some tariffs in spite of NAFTA), which decreases American companies' net profits and the taxes they pay. So overall it's probably a wash. You can't just say "trade deficit"/tariffs/etc will pay for it ... that's not how it works
Morons. The tariff is not paid by Mexico. They are paid by the American consumer. Thanks
They're negotiating nafta right now. It was never going to be a cash check. And it's not that expensive anyways. $15B or so out of the trillion+ that'll be allocated for the total infrastructure rebuilding project.
Also, does anybody see an angle in which Mexico has any significant negotiating power whatsoever against Trump and the US? The country literally has nothing to offer.
Also, a large part of this tariff is just going to be paid by American consumers. So Mexico still ain't paying for crap even with the tariff
feel sad having so many idiots in PA nowadays. what made you think any tax on trade will make people better off? go back to school take some econ 101
^yup. Just look at the talks by economists who are more qualified to assess the overall impact of this shit.
^ yup. Can you say higher prices
Truly a who's who of idiots in the White House
Don't necessarily disagree, but that's a different topic. This was on how said wall could realistically be paid for by Mexico.
Well, the justification of the taxes and tariffs is to build the wall. That is money that currently doesn't exist, so why not use it for the wall? Once the wall is built, it's all gravy. At the end of the day, the US gets a wall and gravy. Win-win. $15 billion also isn't that much. Although, I would bet they go over budget on it.
Also you are delusional about economics if you don't think us companies benefit immensely from trade with mexico. Do some research before you spew your ignorant drivel.
I understand that companies benefit from trade with Mexico, but if Mexico ceased to exist tomorrow, there wouldn't really be any negative long term impacts to the US. There are other countries in the world that can offer what Mexico does. The only advantageous thing about Mexico is the close proximity to the US, i.e cheaper shipping of goods.
^ explain why the mechanism is "full of shit". I'm not talking about where it's a good idea or not, but why it's not possible. Looking forward to your below the surface analysis.
PWC you are logically thinking. Others are not. Good response. Op PWC nailed your answer and you can't accept it? Why? Does it make too much sense?
