Do you love 80-hour work weeks churning out round after round of disposable ideas for ungrateful clients? Can’t wait to see the look on the faces of your family when you cancel vacation for another new business pitch? Thrive on politics, infighting and feeling like a cog in the holding company machine?
No? Then we want to hear from you.
Finally left TCS last week and feel the most happiest person ever.TCS was my 4th organisation and I had joined TCS to settle for long term but after 1 year I realised this is the worst organisation one can be with.No first year hike for laterals, no support provided to hard working dedicated employees, only support and leaves are gifted to employees who do nothing and know nothing except dodging work and getting escalations from clients.Forced wfo, forced completion of useless trainings etc.
We added one new member to the bowl this week! Rock and roll my fish friends. Your task for the week is to add a fish, be transparent at work, and work to some day take over Charlie’s job.
What’s generally standard among FAANG companies for offer acceptance once one is extended? If anyone has experience with this, is it one week or is it more flexible? I am trying to schedule final onsite with two companies and hoping I can get timing to line up (in the event I am fortunate enough to have offers).
What’s the exit ops from fed consulting? What have some people done and what do they recommend
I’ve been practicing for 6 years in-house at a media company (was a startup when I joined and is now more established), straight out of law school. Due to the small nature of our team (3 legal members), I have been involved in all areas of our business and even advise c-suite frequently about legal risks. I received a promotion, with another title bump on the horizon this year. I have an opportunity to go to a start-up media company as the sole attorney. Anyone else have experience doing this?
Do CY qualified deficits require you to haircut taxes for FTCs? If so, can you give me the IRC reference?
As a younger woman staying in “true” NoMa (near Harris Teeter), what is the best way to the other side of the train tracks (like where REI is)? Are any underpasses safer than others to walk through? Should I walk north to Florida Ave as a roundabout way? Or walk south to H St and then walk back up? Thanks in advance!
Deutsch NY - What’s happening over there? What’s the vibe like? A recruiter just hit me up about a role over there.

How much percentage of bonus and increment I can expect for the year end finalisations?
Is turnover higher than normal at your firm this busy season? Historically it was rare for people to leave during busy season, but this year they’re dropping like flies. Almost down to no staff in my office.

Is it crazy to daydream of one day being allowed to do only pro bono work? Mid-level translational associate, currently working hard with this goal in mind. Starting to think that doesn't really happen...
Second year associate in M&A. I like my group, the hours and market clearly suck, but I can’t complain too much. Is it smart to reply to some of the recruiter emails, just to see what’s out there? Some of these signing bonuses sound very appealing. Do I risk getting in trouble with my firm if they find out?
I’m a fifth year and still don’t how to be indispensable on a matter. Any advice? I’m in antitrust and rarely understand the facts or issues.
Are there any other timing concerns between the grant and perfection under a securities account control agreement other than the risk of losing priority in the interim period between executing the collateral agreement and later executing the SACA?
Do you take people at their word when they say “not a tonight thing”/“don’t stay up for this”?
Is there such a thing as a fifth year lit associate at a V10 switching to corporate within the V100? Obviously rare but curious if anyone has seen it.
Who’s ready for another week? Just worked all weekend - looking forward to another 5 days of this. 😭😭😭
Currently looking at 3-4 more hours of work on this late Friday night, and my FIL has decided to sleep on the couch next to my desk and snore like an absolute jackhammer. They are visiting us and I have no power to ask him to kindly gtfo. This is some fresh hell.
I need advice…. a partner is moving my time to non-billable codes rather than writing it off. He’s doing it to make his numbers look good when fees exceed the quoted fee cap. He is doing it without first giving me a guide on how much time to record and is sending my work without amends (ie my work is good). In my firm billable hours recorded go towards performance, promotions and bonuses. Write offs and realisation are not part of those assessments.
I have magic powers. Anytime I step away from my computer my inbox magically generates 30 urgent emails.
Applying to new roles - both lateral and in-house. Should my resume be one page or two? What is considered standard?
Do other IP lit associates have to do deep dives into technical stuff that is in the weeds of the disputed technology or does the firm hire experts to handle/help with that?
Senior associate here. Went on my first summer lunch yesterday, and the junior associates were giving out terrible advice and talking out of their asses. Should I tell them to tone it down?
Recent midlevel - how do you go about getting a junior involved? Do you generally check with the partner about staffing, etc? I’ve had juniors asking for work but not sure if I should check with the partner first
When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
How do I request vacation time as a junior associate? I’m hoping to go on a 7-10 day vacation at the end of August
Has anyone lateraled from a PE-only group to a more general M&A group? Any regrets? Getting really sick of PE clients.
Did you ever had this feeling of not fitting in? People (including non-legal staff) in my team just ignore me. I know I made some mistakes, but resenting a trainee for that reason seems unfair. Just went to farewell drinks of an associate and only two persons out of 14 actively engaged conversation with me. With the rest I had this feeling of forcing everything and of being the awkward one. People were referring to funny stories on cases we’re working on and that I never heard about.
I had a nightmare last night I was still Lender’s counsel and I spent the whole time getting harassed to send breakaway pages to a set of documents Borrower already had.
