Mid-career advice thread we desperately need.

I am a recently promoted director-level leveraged finance originator at a super regional bank and would appreciate mid-career perspectives on what I should be focusing on at this stage. There are a lot of “breaking into finance” convos but no mid-career discussions here.

Anyone have suggestions for the next leg of my career? It feels like internal networking is much more important for advancing than deal production even though that’s my day job.

Due to so many layoffs happening right now. Is it a good idea to switch right now?

Is it true that less than 20% of engineers are women, even when there are so many programs specifically focused on getting females into STEM fields? It seems like it should be more evenly distributed

I need a career change and I could use some advice.
I know the industry I want to work in (Entertainment, Film&TV) but I’m having difficulty choosing positions to apply for.
I have a BSc in Economics for Arts, Culture and Comms (focused on the film industry), 7 years of experience in a big name news channel (operations dept) and I speak 7 languages (at different fluency levels).

Hi everyone, I have a question about job transition. I want to transition into sales training. I have 9 YOE in sales account mgt and created some really effective trainings my office used and loved. After that I got 2 yrs in curriculum development elsewhere.

I want to move into a sales training role that will take into consideration my sales experience? Don't want to start from scratch. What job titles should I be looking for?

but I want to work in (Full Stack) Java development I have learned spring boot, angular, rest API, AWS CI/CD pipeline and I have good knowledge of core java, collections.

Will it be a good decision to directly get a job as an experienced candidate by telling I have experience in Java(2 years)

or

I shouldn't lie about my prior experience with SAP BASIS.

Associate in the NY office of a magic circle firm. Been really struggling with mental health issues for a long time - I feel like I’m begging for guidance/supervision and not getting any, and can’t get any support junior-wise either. I just get told I’m doing a “good job” but I’m pretty sure that’s just because no one is looking. I have an offer for a PE Ops role and whilst comp is good it seems like they're hiring a pool of internal consultants to leverage for implementation projects within specific PortCos and therefore I won't be driving initiatives centrally - is this standard practice for Ops roles?

The prestige and cachet of many firms is no longer sufficient to recruit and retain top-talent. Would a shift in culture (to align with tech) make banks a more desirable option?
