Both firms pay market and will certainly match the DPW scale. As a mid-level, however, I’d imagine that the corporate firm would make me take at least a couple year hit on seniority since it would be a retool. Thoughts? A two-year hit is $60k on the new scale and that doesn’t factor in bonuses. The city is more expensive than the one I’m currently planning to move to.

Given that people are pushed out of biglaw between years 5-10 taking a 2-year reduction in class rank probably gives you a net income increase by extending your biglaw lifespan. Also, as you retool, you want your billing rate to be as cheap as possible. Except for the deals where clients are completely fee insensitive partners won’t want to staff someone with midlevel rates but the efficiency and experience of a junior.

helpful

Yes, if you want in house and that city, the corporate firm (not shop) is the no brainer. But there is very little chance you’ll be able to get an offer before conflicts clear at the place you already accepted. So up to you whether you want to renege for the chance that you might get an offer to retool as a corporate associate.

Walking right by this one. Good luck!

As a heads up. If any of you are interviewing at Facebook and were planning to leverage their offer to negotiate at another company, they will recall their emails to you with any offer information as soon as they think it’s a no. I told them I was not interested 2 hours ago because it was an exploding offer (even though I haven’t finished negotiating my other offers), and the email is already gone. Thankfully I took a screenshot as soon as I got it.

If a recruiter asks me if I’ve spoken to another recruiter at the company, is it okay if I lie and say no? Or should I just be honest and say yes? I’ve heard of instances where candidates have been ghosted if they say they’ve been in contact with another recruiter. In my case, the recruiter I was in contact with messaged me on LinkedIn and never followed up after our 5 minute phone conversation. I really want this job so I don’t want to mess anything up before getting an interview.

Down because I got some upsetting (work-related) news yesterday. I was up for promotion and did not get it, basically for my actual job that I have been acting in for over a year. Colleagues—who I trained and mentored—did receive promotion and we will all be working at the same job, just them at higher level and pay. Contd.
