I’d estimate conservatively that approximately 75% of a litigation associate’s job (regardless of seniority) is discovery related, in one form or another. And there are associates that spend their time doing research and writing. They’re called appellate lawyers.

What makes you think that discovery isn’t part of case strategy? But yes, much of my work (definitely more than half, probably closer to 75%) is managing discovery. I don’t know that it’s different for the people senior to me though? The bulk of litigation is discovery if you think about it. The time spent collecting information and fighting about that is most of the life span of a case. Especially in our current world where most cases settle before trial. You are fighting discovery battles to get a summary judgment motion written or a settlement discussion started.

I joined right when new cases were kicking off so I have been 100% immersed in brief writing for motions to dismiss and judgment on the pleadings… all about timing of the case I suppose. Though what wouldn’t I give for some mindless doc review right now for a mental break 🙃

Third year in Biglaw. My workload is probably 40-50% discovery overall, but it varies widely week-to-week.

Are motions not discovery? Telling the judge about the silly fight I’m in is my favorite part part of discovery. Attaching opposing counsel’s emails as an exhibit is like 5% of my joy in life.

This is why in my end of year self eval my firm requires, I am literally writing I don’t want to be in litigation if I am required to do discovery. I never even wanted to be a litigator.

Received an offer from Omnicom agency, but they require me to work from the office three days a week, and vacation time must be accrued. Omnicom's policy seems stiff and quite outdated, especially coming from a Publicis agency where employee benefits are quite excellent (unlimited PTO, Commuter and Health Wellness reimbursements, etc., etc.) How do people working in Omnicom agencies feel about their policies, and is there any hope that they will switch to more open, flexible ones soon?

i’m an analyst and started around half a year ago- and i have a CC who i never seem to talk with about any personal or lighter topics with, he only talks about work. sometimes he is condescending and has more expectations of me who just recently came out of undergrad. it’s sometimes discouraging when i ask him questions about the different types of projects. however i think since he only cares about my career he would represent me well in talent discussions. do i switch?

Anyone had any conversation with their doctor regarding frozen vs fresh transfer? I was just told by my nurse that I am doing fresh transfer, but I don’t remember having this conversation with my doctor. I was under the impression that it depends on the ultrasounds and readiness of the body. I also heard frozen embryos has better success rates than the fresh transfer, how true is that? When I research it says, not enough medical evidence to prove this and under 35, both has equal rate. I am 34

Just completed my credits to take the CPA and have started studying.. working in auditing rn.. not sure either is right for me. Any advice? I really am generally more interested in finance over accounting, if that makes sense. But I have an offer at big 4 for audit and feel like I shouldn’t turn that down.. Is Big 4 a good thing to do for a year, get on my resume and such, or is it a waste of time? And should I take this CPA if it may not involve my long-term career goals/path?
