Midsize firm and I am the only female. The managing partner told me I can’t take anymore vacation days if I take maternity leave. Thoughts?

This feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen

I had an employment attorney friend reach out about filing a lawsuit. The firm has a history and 5 women have left in the past 18 months 😬

In my experience at mid size firm without paid leave- in order to convert my non-paid fmla into paid leave- I had to save my vacation and sick days. When I was on leave - I continued to get paid until those days ran out. Perhaps that is what was meant but inelegantly stated. If your firm is large enough to fall under the FMLA your employer cannot restrict how much (unpaid) FMLA leave days you chose to take based on how much vacation/sick days you take during pregnancy.

like

If the firm won’t approve your vacation days just because you took FMLA leave, but approves someones vacation day who didn’t take FMLA leave that is discrimination, interference and retaliation.

I would quit.

There’s a reason there are no other women there. This won’t be the only time they are discriminatory. GTFO.

Proud of you!!

Could you explains little more? Do you have PTO, are you taking vacation as part of your maternity leave, is it just FMLA or is it a maternity policy, etc.

It’s FMLA that I’m taking

It’s also unpaid maternity leave

If it’s unpaid that makes no sense. A lot of time they have vacation days run out to pay you while on leave. If that’s not the case I would be looking to move firms as you come back.

dafuq?

Unpaid? Wow. I know normally you have to said your vacation/sick days and then use paid leave. If it were paid I would say it was normal. But wow not for unpaid.

Regarding retirement, the way I understood it the ideal was: 1. 401k match 2. Roth IRA 3. Max 401k 4. Other accounts (eg. HSA if you are elegible, potentially 529 for your kids, otherwise just investing in stuff) Is that right or am I forgetting something?

Can somebody please explain to me why MBB and other top consulting firms are so adamant that you have an MBA? I majored in accounting, finance, and operations management at a top 10 undergrad business school and then got my masters in information systems from the grad school program. I took multiple MBA courses as electives when getting my masters and it seemed like those classes were very basic and easy. Idk if I would learn anything in an MBA program that I hadn’t already learned in undergrad
