Been at both. Global and more varied clients, larger budgets, can do “more”
Better/easier access to resources and vendor support. Sometimes have the ability to just focus in on your role and not worry about other aspects of the campaign being done.
Each situation is different and what you want will evolve. There is no harm in trying and you never know. It can be a resume “builder”. The grass may not always be greener but at least you tried.
Having done both, I am going to stay independent and smaller. I feel like I am more in control of my destiny and have more executive say in things and the dept I run and the agency as a whole.
Context: been with my shop since I was undergrad. Def have the perks of trust, equity with my team, leadership, direct client access. Curious about how comms departments function at larger agencies.
I've worked at both as well. I believe there are great advantages with indie shops - you tend to have to do a little more that allows you to learn more about marketing, client exposure and new business. I also think you are more connected with the team. Holding company agencies have more resources and exposure to larger clients. Decide what you want to do in that next job. If you want to see what it's like to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond might be worth testing out the indie
