Tips for not crying when you’re asking for leave? I’m so stressed and overwhelmed with work and the CPA exam and I want to take time off to just put all my energy into the exam and be done with it. I want a month and a half to finish it up and then have a week or two to decompress before I come back. But anytime I wanna talk about it, the stress and nerves overwhelm me and my eyes start welling up. Idk how to control it.

Feeling really lonely this holiday season and I think it's time for a change. I love my job but I'm realizing I devote too much time to it. I would really like to expand my social circle and potentially meet someone, but I don't really know where to start. Ideally my partner would also work in healthcare, but it isn't a dealbreaker for me. Ladies what should I do?? I'm a 32 year old woman with no kids.

Is there any way to make pretax contributions to a retirement account outside my employer plan if:

Here’s my situation; I left a higher paying consulting position for a lower paying position (better WLB). When I left consulting, I got paid out for my PTO, and I received a signing bonus with my new company. I expect my income will be significantly higher this year than it will be for a while. Have a primary home and a vacation home. We go to vacation home for holidays as family is near by but it is a 2 day drive to get there or a plane ride. With our pups driving has become more of the norm. We do not rent when we are not there. Thinking of buying third home about 4 hours from primary home on the coast for enjoyment. I worry about juggling 3 homes. Anyone with experience with this? Advice?

After 3 years of dealing with the worst firm I've ever had the displeasure of working for, I finally landed my dream gig at a small specialty firm. The people at the new firm are all SMEs featured in and contributors to the most notable business publications in the world, less than 100 employees, better benefits, unlimimted PTO, doubled my pay and landed a senior role.

Keep looking for what you want and deserve. I'm happy to be forging a better path away from what I've had to endure.

How's Siegfried PTO policy? Is there firmwide shutdown during the holidays?

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. Obviously the holidays are about spending time with those you love, but I'm tired! And I see my entire family at least once a month for a group dinner. Am I a bad daughter/sister if I choose vacation this one time?

Took my first vacation (1 week) in over a year to visit family. Was bombarded by emails from one partner asking me to complete non-time sensitive motions, which he hasn’t even bothered to review. This is my third firm in three years (first I left as I was severely underpaid, second I left for a 100k increase in salary), but this lack of respect for my boundaries has made me want to move again once I’ve completed 18 mos. Bad? They don’t do this to the other associates (all male).

I terminated a former employee for consistently missing deadlines, v. poor quality of work (basic spelling mistakes), costed me $500k in errors and subsequently called him a “bottom-tier performer” to my girlfriend. I don’t think I’ve said anything out of line - am I in the wrong here?
