Thank god! Unlike the others you at least accept that it exists.
Yeah, women do it too. Patriarchy and the social conditioning is such that they continue to perpetuate the bullshit.

D1, you can say that because you haven’t lived through it. Micro aggressions against women are the norm. Till this day a women can’t walk the streets in lots of parts in India without being catcalled. And too bad if she isn’t dressed like a “decent woman “ because otherwise she is asking for it. Pepper spray is a must if you are taking an Uber at night. I can go on and on and on
Indian woman here. Agree with you OP. Comments like "beti nahi beta ho" make me squirm. Misogyny is so deeply entrenched in our culture it's gonna take more than 60 years to get over it. In fact I realized I personally held so many biases which were challenged as I came here via dialog and realizing that this is actually not the way to think! Some of the things I'm just accustomed to (catcalling, sexist comments and jokes amongst family members/friends, perpetuated by both men and women) are not ok. And I'm from a city with a comparatively liberal upbringing! We have miles to go.

Thanks for saying this. I agree with all your points. I am learning everyday to let go of biases that we have internalized.
A lot of people seem to think this is a broad generalization which imo is a cop out.
Wrong. Misogyny is embedded in every culture. But some have developed faster than others (ie Europe) and with development have left behind much of the misogyny. India in 50-60 years will be fine.

A lot of women would disagree with you. Thanks for the estimate though.

An Indian talking about deep rooted issues that still happen in India in a bowl full of desis is not self hate. If you have never encountered misogyny or don’t continue to do so then that’s great. please feel free to move on. This is a legit issue that a lot of women face, if you can’t empathize them take your one liners that don’t make any sense elsewhere.
