Analysts - where did your comp fall this year?
I pray everyday for another financial recession.
What’s the best swag you’ve received?
I’d say it definitely could vary based on the shop and vertical. For example, I’m on the healthcare team and we grind 85+ hour weeks pretty consistently, whereas our industrials team has way more slack on staffing and they aren’t worked as badly. I’d say Saturdays are normally protected now, but I work on most Sundays
Baird?
It ebbs and flows. Any job in finance is going to have rough weeks that blow. I wouldn’t expect to go into a role where you’d be pissed off if you have a few 80+ hour weeks in a row, that comes with the comp
Expect 70-80 hours and that you might get a call at any time (granted not 3 am) for urgent work. There have been weeks where the weekend was just as busy as my M-F. The lifestyle is tough, MM, BB or Boutique
Are you talking Baird/Blair/HL MM? Or are you talking boutique sub $250mm EV? Either way you’re going to have busy times and work more than 60hrs. Would expect 9a-12a Monday-Thursday, 12 hours Friday and some weekend work bare minimum.
The first three mentioned yeah
For me it’s less the hours and more the lack of control over your schedule/sheer unpredictability of the job. EX: Can’t totally predict when it will be slow to finally plan dinner out with your SO. Also most of the hours work is after 5PM when ur finally out of meetings and your MD can provide direction. But so is the life of an IB analyst/associate
