I agree with Associate 1...they are likely mixing it up to try to be fair. If you'd prefer to stay on nights I would definitely let them know. It could be a win win, you'd get to stay on nights and let someone stay on days who would dread being on nights.
Have you tried volunteering to stay on the night shift? I have seen things like this done out of a sense of "fairness". Most people consider the night shift to be the worst shift and may have a quarterly rotating roster.
Assuming the night shift is not causing problems and the command wants to change the makeup of the team, volunteering to stay may work.
