Stimulants clearly win. Modafinil might be more sustainable long term.

Understandable. Issues with stimulants:
1. Limited sense of time (could end up 1hour on 20m task perfecting it) - on a DD project I think this would mess up your performance
2. Not sense-checking: You just do and this could end up messy
3. More clumsy: never used to make spelling mistakes or lose things before but with stimulants you do.
I think Modafinil helps with the above but it’s a catch-22 as it messes up sleep and makes you generally more irritable.

Haven’t used modafinil, but not all stimulants are the same. Recently made the switch from Adderall to Ritalin and my insomnia issues are completely gone. My crash is much more subdued and I’m not as irritable. It doesn’t have as much impact on focus/distractability but it’s a good compromise for me overall. Will work with my psych to up the Ritalin dosage a bit to see if it helps the focus, but I’m happier now. Have you tried both?

Gotcha, I moved out of the US and that was why I had to switch to medikinet, which is equivalent to Ritalin.
Started modafinil recently and really enjoy it. It minimizes the negative side effects of traditional stimulants. I do occasionally need a 5mg dexitrine to perfectly manage focus in combo with the modafinil.
