I see so much room for growth in my firm, especially related to social media, updated technology, marketing strategies, etc. Except, every time I suggest them, I'm pegged as a greedy/pushy millennial. Told by the older partners, "back in our day" or "we tried that years ago" and am quickly dismissed. When did you know your firm wasn't right for you? I'm not sure if it's just the stress of being a new attorney with a family or if my job isn't the right fit. I work in civil litigation and am consistently below my billables. I can't stay late because my kids need me and I can't work on the weekends because I have to maintain my house and take care of my kids. I'm being constantly told to work harder, stay later, etc but it's not practical. Or am I not approaching this with the right mindset?

I've been in practice for about a year at a high stakes plaintiffs litigation firm. I make $85/year, I'm in the office at 8 and leave around 5:30. I work occasionally on Saturdays. When we have something big coming up, I stay extra to get it done in time. I've never missed a deadline.

Finally just took a day to work from home. My office never instituted a hybrid policy, kept everyone in office full time, and now our county hospital beds are full. One thing I didn't realize was the toll anxiety and constant tension was taking on me. We all need to be a bit kinder to ourselves because this profession isn't going to do it for us.

Just found out that not everyone in my office is "sold" on the vaccine. Meanwhile, I'm going to be first in line having a pre-existing condition and family members that are high risk. How does everyone handle managing their caseload and utilizing their paralegal(s)? I litigate primarily, with occasional small transactional projects that come up in the course of those files. It’s usually real estate related—drafting a purchase agreement, deed, etc. My firm is not one where we specialize so much that each case has the same process as every other case. HELP! I’ve been contacted by a small private security firm who wants me to be their “on call” counsel. They describe it as a lot of contract review, drafting NDAs, etc. but also being there if/when they need to license a vehicle, defend civil suit, etc. It’s overwhelming but sounds like a really great opportunity. I have enough background to be comfortable with contracts and litigation, but don’t want to get myself into a mess. Has anybody else ever had a job like this?
